2020-02-24xcompile: Use GCC wrappers for ar, nmJacob Garber
When compiling with GCC, use the special wrappers around ar and nm that provide the path to the plugin they need to understand LTO object files. These wrappers forward all other functionality to the underlying programs, so they should otherwise be equivalent. 2020-02-03xcompile: Disable null pointer optimizationsJacob Garber
According to the C standard, accessing the NULL pointer (memory at address zero) is undefined behaviour, and so GCC is allowed to optimize it out. Of course, accessing this memory location is sometimes necessary, so this optimization can be disabled using -fno-delete-null-pointer-checks. This is already done in coreboot, but adding it to xcompile will also disable it for all the payloads. For example, coreinfo compiled with LTO libpayload crashes when this flag isn't set, presumably because the compiler is optimizing something out that it shouldn't. 2019-11-20Remove MIPS architectureJulius Werner
The MIPS architecture port has been added 5+ years ago in order to support a Chrome OS project that ended up going nowhere. No other board has used it since and nobody is still willing or has the expertise and hardware to maintain it. We have decided that it has become too much of a mainenance burden and the chance of anyone ever reviving it seems too slim at this point. This patch eliminates all MIPS code and MIPS-specific hacks. 2019-05-28util/xcompile/xcompile: apply -march to clang as well as gccAlan Green
For x64 and x86_32 configurations, apply the -march flag to both GCC and Clang flags. This solves the problem of Clang-compiled coreboot failing due to Clang emitting SSE instructions for code that is executed while SSE is not enabled. This patch takes functionality targeted for GCC configurations and moves it down a few lines, modifying CFLAGS instead of GCC_CFLAGS in order that it applies to both GCC and Clang. This is an alternate patch to CB:32887. 2019-03-06pci_drivers/cpu_drivers: Fix constructed arrays on x86_64Patrick Rudolph
The __pci_driver and __cpu_driver uses variable length arrays which are constructed by the linker at build-time. The linker always place the structs at 16-byte boundary, as per "System V ABI". That's not a problem on x86, as the struct is exactly 16 Bytes in size. On other platforms, like x86_64 it breaks, because the default data alignment isn't SysV compatible. Set -malign-data=abi to make x86_64 gcc use the SysV psABI. Fixes broken __pci_driver and __cpu_driver on x86_64. POWER8 is a specific implementation of ppc64, which is by now outdated (POWER9 has been on the market for a while). Rename arch/power8/ to potentially cover a wider range of hardware. In the code we do the following in a number of places to pre-initialize an array with a certain value before overwriting some of the array with other values: u8 mainboard_picr_data[FCH_INT_TABLE_SIZE] = { [0 ... FCH_INT_TABLE_SIZE-1] = 0x1F, } clang does not like that behavior unless we specify the option -Wno-initializer-overrides. Add a Kconfig value to enable building libpayload with the 586 compiler. Update the cross compiler script to add the Kconfig value name that is used when libpayload builds. The Quark SOC does not support some of the instructions generated with the 686 compiler (e.g. CMOV). Success occurs when payloads/libpayload/build/config.h indicates that CONFIG_LP_USE_MARCH_586=1. 2017-06-25xcompile: Fix clang compiler runtime detectionStefan Reinauer
clang, like gcc, needs a compiler runtime library. Unlike gcc, it can use either its own runtime library (compiler-rt), or gcc's version (libgcc). Also unlike gcc, the version of clang that is currently part of our reference toolchain does not provide the necessary versions of compiler-rt for all platforms we support. Hence, for now, use libgcc even on clang builds. This patch allows switching between the two, but switching to compiler-rt will break clang builds, unless someone fixes our reference toolchain to provide libclang_rt.builtins-${ARCH}.a for each of our supported platforms. There are some changes to its output, but they're actually _more_ correct: so far, architectures without compiler support kept compiler options for architectures that ran successfully earlier. I tried to handle the checking for the config flag internal to xcompile, but the config flags don't appear to have been loaded into the environment by make at that point. This does update the if to check if the flag is even set before putting anything into .xcompile though. If the LDFLAG isn't set, there's no point in appending anything. Also removes the LP version of the erratum config flag, which was a copy/paste mistake from $(CONFIG_LP_COMPILER_GCC). In order to be able to check the compiler versions, we need to be able to access the compiler variables. Move the original assignments outside of the GCC check, and assign either the GCC or CLANG compiler to the actual CC_ environment variable later. This patch adds support to enable a linker workaround to a hardware erratum on some early Cortex-A53 revisions. Since the linker option was added very recently, we use xcompile to test whether the toolchain supports it first. It is also guarded by a Kconfig since only a few ARM64 SoCs will need this and it incurs a performance penalty. In testing other localization changes, I found that I couldn't build anymore because xcompile wasn't picking up my toolchain. I traced it to the regex comparison of '.*format \(.[a-z0-9-]*\)' to the string 'formato del fichero elf32-i386'. Forcing the localization of objdump to C before doing the comparison fixes the issue. The option --divide is required by our assembler to ensure that '/' is not parsed as a comment sign but as a division, because some of the cache as ram code is using divisions. The --divide parameter has been part of the GNU as since binutils 2.17. While for GCC targets the compiler is just defined as a single binary, for clang it is defined as a binary and some options, e.g.: clang -target i386-elf -ccc-gcc-name i386-elf-gcc When executing the compiler with "$1", the shell will look for a binary with the above name (instead of just clang) and always fail detection of any CFLAGS. 2015-04-28xcompile: improve mips toolchain handlingVadim Bendebury
The mips toolchain used by coreboot so far comes from Chrome OS chroot and is built explicitly for little endian code generation. Other flavors of MIPS toolchain usually generate big endian code by default and require command line options to switch to little endian mode. This patch adds another variable to the set of compiler flags examined to determine compiler compatibility. This results in adding another nested for loop in test_architecture(). To avoid the need to break from different levels of nesting, processing of the successful case is taken out from test_architecture(). There are ARM systems which are essentially heterogeneous multicores where some cores implement a different ARM architecture version than other cores. A specific example is the tegra124 which boots on an ARMv4 coprocessor while most code, including most of the firmware, runs on the main ARMv7 core. To support SOCs like this, the plan is to generalize the ARM architecture so that all versions are available, and an SOC/CPU can then select what architecture variant should be used for each component of the firmware; bootblock, romstage, and ramstage. We don't always want to use ARMv7 code when building for ARM, so we should separate out the ARMv7 code so it can be excluded, and also make it possible to include code for some other version of the architecture instead, all per build component for cases where we need more than one architecture version at a time. When compiling coreboot for x86 on gcc the compiler is free to pick whatever defaults it is using at the time of gcc's compile/configuration when no -march is specified. Not properly specifying -march then opens up the use of SSE instructions for compilation units it should not be used such as the SMM module as this module doesn't save/restore SSE registers.
