2024-04-25util/ifdtool: Add support for checking GPR0 statusTyler Wang
This patch adds support for the new command-line option `-c` to the ifdtool, which is able to check GPR0 (Global Protected Range) status. This patch also add helper function get_enabled_gprd() to get enabled GPR0 settings. It used in enable_gpr0() and is_gpr0_protected(). Developers can use ifdtool with '-c' option to check whether GPR0 is set to enabled or disabled in the binary file. BUG=none TEST=(1) > ifdtool -p mtl -E image-unlocked.bin -O image-lock.bin ... This patch adds support for the new command-line option `-E` to the ifdtool, which enables users (primarily factory users) to protect GPR0. Additionally, this patch refactors some code while adding support for enabling GPR0 protection. 2024-01-08util/ifdtool: Add support for extended region read/write accessReka Norman
Platforms from CNL onwards support up to 16 flash regions, not 12. The permissions for regions [15:12] are stored in extended region read/write access fields in the FLMSTR registers. Currently ifdtool treats these fields as reserved, so they're not modified when locking or unlocking. Add support for extended regions so that they are locked/unlocked by the --lock/--unlock options. This will make the locked/unlocked descriptors generated by ifdtool match those generated by mFIT. 2024-01-05util/ifdtool: Add support for disabling GPR0Reka Norman
On ChromeOS devices with updateable CSE firmware, the GPR0 (Global Protected Range) register is used to ensure the CSE RO is write protected even when the FLMSTR-based protection is temporarily disabled by coreboot to allow updating the CSE RW. For more details see Documentation/soc/intel/cse_fw_update/cse_fw_update.md Therefore to allow modifying the CSE firmware from the CPU, the descriptor must have both the FLMSTR-based protection disabled (which can be done using ifdtool --unlock), and GPR0 disabled. Add an ifdtool option for disabling GPR0. For now I've added support for all platforms for which I have the SPI programming guide. Support for more platforms can be added in the future if needed. Some boards (e.g. prodrive/hermes) that do not provide their own FMAP and therefore have been generated by the build system (+ ifdtool) experience a failure when trying to build with an IFD that contains regions which do not have equivalent fmap names (set to NULL). Therefore add a NULL check for the fmapname and ignore the region if we do not have an fmapname. 2023-03-28util/ifdtool: Add option to create FMAP templateMaximilian Brune
On systems that do not provide their own *.fmd (Flashmap) file, we fall back to a default flashmap file. That file however does not contain the blobs (ME, GBE ...), that are usually placed below the BIOS Flashmap. It can therefore easily happen that the placement of the blobs collides with the placement of the BIOS region (e.g. if CBFS_SIZE is big enough). The fmaptool can't catch that, since it does not know of the blobs placement. This patch basically maps the regions described in the IFD (Intel Firmware Descriptor) to the default Flashmap. 2023-02-02util/ifdtool: Add Wellsburg supportPatrick Rudolph
Wellsburg is IFDv2 compatible in most fields, but not in all. It only has 8 regions and the flash master bits match the defines for IFDv1 and thus has an "IFDv1.5" descriptor. Add a new enum for IFDv1.5 descriptor and use them to properly operate on this IFD. The 'SPI programming guide' is inconsistent and mentions 6 regions in one place, but 7 regions in another chapter. Tests showed that it actually supports 7 regions. Add support using the -p argument to specify Wellsburg platform. The previous patch made sure that only 8 regions are used and that no corruption can happen when operating in IFDv2/IFDv1.5 mode. Tested on Intel Grangeville. 2023-01-10ifdtool: Determine max regions from IFDPatrick Rudolph
IFDv1 always has 8 regions, while IFDv2 always has 16 regions. It's platform specific which regions are used or are reserved. The 'SPI programming guide' as the name says is a guide only, not a specification what the hardware actually does. The best to do is not to rely on the guide, but detect how many regions are present in the IFD and expose them all. Very early IFDv2 chipsets, sometimes unofficially referred to as IFDv1.5 platforms, only have 8 regions. To not corrupt the IFD when operating on an IFDv1.5 detect how much space is actually present in the IFD. Fixes IFD corruption on Wellsburg/Lynxpoint when writing a new flash layout. 2022-02-09util/ifdtool: add generic `PLATFORM_IFD2` for early SoC developmentWonkyu Kim
`PLATFORM_IFD2` macro is more generic tag that can be associated with early next SoC platform development which using IFDv2. The current assumption is that newer SoC platform still uses the same SPI/eSPI frequency definition being used for latest platform(TGL, ADL) and if the frequency definition is updated later, `PLATFORM_IFD2' will use latest frequency definition for early next SoC development. And once upstream is allowed for new platform, platform name will be added in tool later. 2021-06-20util/ifdtool: Use -p platform name to detect IFDv2 platform and chipsetSubrata Banik
ifdtool uses `chipset` information to determine how certain straps are decoded. This has been used for IFDv1 platforms as well as IFDv2 platforms (CHIPSET_500_600_SERIES_TIGER_ALDER_POINT). IFDv2 platforms are all expected to pass in `-p` argument to identify the platform. This platform information can be used to identify the appropriate chipset information. For IFDv1 since `-p` argument is not provided, ifdtool needs to use certain fields in the descriptor (e.g. strap length) for unique identification of IFDv1 chipset. This change updates `check_ifd_version()` function to: 1. Determine if IFD version is v1 or v2 based on `-p` argument. If `-p` is not provided, it assumes that the platform is using IFDv1. 2. Based on IFD version, it calls either `ifd2_platform_to_chipset()` or `ifd1_guess_chipset()` to determine chipset information. This fixes the issue reported with CB:44815, where ifdtool is unable to identify Alder Lake chipsets. 2020-11-02util/ifdtool: Enable CPU read of the ME regionUsha P
We are implementing a mechanism in coreboot to update CSME firmware, this requires coreboot to be able to read CSME region. Exposing the CSME data is not an issue since the data stored by CSE is all encrypted. This patch provides a command line option "-r" which will enable read access to CSME region when locking. Without this change, locking SPI regions using ifdtool will block BIOS access to read/access CSME. This will cause failure since BIOS can't read basic information such as CSME version. TEST=Flashrom returns success while erasing the SI_ME region. After rebooting the DUT, DUT boots into OS without any issues on Drawlat EVT. 2018-08-07ifdtool: fix flumap handling in chipsets prior ibex peak/5 seriesStefan Tauner
The Upper Map section in the descriptor contains a database of flash chips (VSCC Table). Its offset is located at a fixed offset from the beginning of the image. ifdtool falsely calculates the offset from the descriptor signature which has moved by 16 bytes with step b of the Ibex Peak (5 series) chipset. This produces bogus output for all chipsets older than that. This patch corrects the behavior by calculating the offset of flumap by adding 4096 - 256 - 4 to the start of the image. 2018-05-04ifdtool: Add a list of known platforms that support IFD_VERSION_2Furquan Shaikh
ifdtool has relied on one of the fields within FCBA(read_freq) to determine whether a platform supports IFD_VERSION_1 or IFD_VERSION_2. However, newer platforms like GLK and CNL do not have read_freq field in FCBA and so the value of these bits cannot be used as an indicator to distinguish IFD versions. In the long run, we need to re-write ifdtool to have a better mapping of SoC to IFD fields. But until that is done, this change adds a list of platforms that we know do not support read_freq field but still use IFD_VERSION_2. This change also updates GLK and CNL to pass in platform parameter to ifdtool. The default values used by ifdtool for setting region access control do not match the expected values for SKL/KBL as per the SPI programming guide. This change adds platform "sklkbl" that sets region access control bits differently for SKL/KBL images. 2017-06-02ifdtool: avoid potential unaligned pointer usageRonald G. Minnich
In get_region, ifdtool assigns a not-known-to-be-aligned pointer to a uint32_t *. Now you know and I know that it is almost certainly aligned, but clang on OSX doesn't like this, and it's a dicey thing to do in any event, just waiting to hit someone hard at some future date. Assign the pointer to a void * and use memmove to copy the value to a uint32_t. This usage is more portable to all little-endian architectures, now, but is still not endian-safe. With coreboot 4.4 switched to "Descriptor mode" for Lenovo T500 it automatically unlocks all flash regions. For Gbe region the "Requester ID" was hardcoded resulting in *dead* Gbe. Keep board specific "Requester ID" while unlocking Gbe region. Allows Lenovo T500 to boot with IFD "Descriptor mode" with unlocked flash regions. Apollo Lake uses yet another descriptor format where only two masters are used: CPU/BIOS and CSE/TXE. CSE stores data in a region number 5 that has not been used previously and CPU must not write it. 2015-08-19ifdtool: Update to support Skylake+ descriptor formatDuncan Laurie
The descriptor format has changed with Skylake and some fields have moved or been expanded. This includes new SPI frequencies and chip densities, though unfortunately 30MHz in the new format conflicts with 50MHz in the old format... There are also new regions with a few reserved regions inserted before a new embedded controller region. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a documented version field so there does not seem to be an official way to determine if a specific descriptor is new or old. To work around this ifdtool checks the hardcoded "SPI Read Frequency" to see if it set for 20MHz (old descriptor) or 17MHz (new descriptor). The new option "--newlayout <file>" will read <file> in flashrom's layout format and copy flash regions from the current flash image file to a new flash image file. If a region grows, the padding is added at the beginning of the target region in the new file so that the data is "right-aligned" to the end of the region. If a region shrinks, a warning is given and the tail end of existing data is copied to the target region in the new file. Regions of zero or negative size are ignored. (In the example below 00fff000:00000fff regions are an artifact of the address encoding in the register fields.) Example Usage: Given a flash image for a board with a Sandy Bridge processor and Intel 6-Series chipset in the file vpx7654.bin ifdtool --layout layout.txt vpx7564.bin will yield the file layout.txt: 00000000:00000fff fd 00180000:003fffff bios 00001000:0017ffff me 00fff000:00000fff gbe 00fff000:00000fff pd Notice that the "bios" portion extends to the end of the 4MB flash.
