Commit 09f2921b (cbfs: Add LZ4 in-place decompression support for pre-RAM stages) breaks building cbfstool with gcc (Debian 4.9.2-10) 4.9.2 in Debian 8.3 (jessie) with a 32-bit user space. 2016-02-22cbfs: Add LZ4 in-place decompression support for pre-RAM stagesJulius Werner
This patch ports the LZ4 decompression code that debuted in libpayload last year to coreboot for use in CBFS stages (upgrading the base algorithm to LZ4's dev branch to access the new in-place decompression checks). This is especially useful for pre-RAM stages in constrained SRAM-based systems, which previously could not be compressed due to the size requirements of the LZMA scratchpad and bounce buffer. The LZ4 algorithm offers a very lean decompressor function and in-place decompression support to achieve roughly the same boot speed gains (trading compression ratio for decompression time) with nearly no memory overhead. For now we only activate it for the stages that had previously not been compressed at all on non-XIP (read: non-x86) boards. In the future we may also consider replacing LZMA completely for certain boards, since which algorithm wins out on boot speed depends on board-specific parameters (architecture, processor speed, SPI transfer rate, etc.). 2016-02-22urara: Increase bootblock sizeJulius Werner
The urara bootblock is less than a kilobyte from its limit (20K). There's more than enough space available so increase it to avoid impeding changes to core code. Also add some more automated checks to better model the platform's multiple windows into the same memory region and guard against accidental overlaps by a seemingly benign change to one window. 2016-02-22memlayout: Add symbols for stage boundsJulius Werner
Stages are inconsistent with other memlayout regions in that they don't have _<name> and _e<name> symbols defined. We have _program and _eprogram, but that always only refers to the current stage and _eprogram marks the actual end of the executable's memory footprint, not the end of the area allocated in memlayout. Both of these are sometimes useful to know, so let's add another set of symbols that allow the stage areas to be treated more similarly to other regions. Some vendors store lower frequency profiles in the regular SPD, if the SPD contains a XMP profile. To make use of the board's and DIMM's maximum supported DRAM frequency, try to parse the XMP profile and use it instead. Validate the XMP profile to make sure that the installed DIMM count per channel is supported and the requested voltage is supported. To reduce complexity only XMP Profile 1 is read. Allows my DRAM to run at 800Mhz instead of 666Mhz as encoded in the default SPD. 2016-02-19x86: add coreboot table entry for TSC infoAaron Durbin
The 8254 (Programmable Interrupt Timer) is becoming optional on x86 platforms -- either from saving power or not including it at all. To allow a payload to still use a TSC without doing calibration provide the TSC frequency information in the coreboot tables. That data is provided by code/logic already employed by platform. If tsc_freq_mhz() returns 0 or CONFIG_TSC_CONSTANT_RATE is not selected the coreboot table record isn't created. Issue observed: The PCIe Root port shows up in GNU/Linux but no PCIe device is being detected. Test system: * Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H (Intel Pentium CPU G2130) * Lenovo T530 (Intel Core i5-3320M CPU) Problem description: The PEG Root port link training on Ivy Bridge needs to be manually started. Problem solution: The bits are set in early_init to meet PCIe reset timeout of 100msec. The bits should be set in PCI device enable function, but this causes the PCI enumeration to not detect the card, as it's still booting. Adding a fixed delay of 100msec resolves this problem, but this would increase boot time. Read the PCI base revision mask to make sure it's any IvyBridge CPU. Don't run the code on MRC path as it has its own PEG initilization code. Tested with: * Nvidia NVS 5400M (PCIe2) * ATI Radeon HD4780 (PCIe2) * Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT (PCIe1) Untested: * PCIe3 devices Final test results: The PEG device shows up under GNU/Linux and can be used without issues. This is because we are in NEM mode, there is no backing store and a miss in L1 may cause L1D line snoop that gets written back. The solution is to flush L1D to L2 so snoop guaranteed to hit L2. 2016-02-16device/pci_rom: Rename missleading ON_DEVICE_ROM_RUNPatrick Rudolph
The Kconfig option "ON_DEVICE_ROM_RUN" suggests that PCI Option ROMs are run, but in fact it only controls the loading of PCI based Option ROMs. At the moment coreboot only executes Option ROMs if they are VGA Options ROMs and the VGA Option ROM execution flag is enabled. Setting ON_DEVICE_ROM_RUN with VGA Option ROM execution disabled has no effect. Clarify that this flag controls the loading behaviour and not the execution behaviour. Since it's generally never a bad idea to double-check for overruns, let's port it to coreboot and use it where applicable. Having two separate memlayouts is an unnecessary complication. Contributors need to make sure that their code fits into the vboot one (with smaller stage sizes) either way, and the Tegras have plenty of SRAM anyway. Since we're reaching the timestamp limit on certain platforms (both for the pre-RAM cache and the final CBMEM region), this patch increases the amount of space for both. In the pre-RAM case, it achieves this by always utilizing the full size of the TIMESTAMP() region allocated in memlayout.ld, rather than arbitrarily limiting it to some constant. 2016-02-10Kconfig: Move defaults for CBFS_SIZEMartin Roth
We want the question for CBFS size to be next to the rom size in the mainboard directory, but that doesn't seem to work for how people want to set the defaults. Instead of having the list of exceptions to the size, just set the defaults at the end of kconfig. - Move the defaults for chipsets not setting HAVE_INTEL_FIRMWARE into the chipset Kconfigs (gm45, nehalem, sandybridge, x4x) - Override the default for HAVE_INTEL_FIRMWARE on skylake. - Move the HAVE_INTEL_FIRMWARE default setting into the firmware Kconfig file - Move the location of the default CBFS_SIZE=ROM_SIZE to the end of the top level kconfig file, while leaving the question where it is. Test=rebuild Kconfig files before and after the change, verify that they are how they were intended to be. Note: the Skylake boards actually changed value, because they were picking up the 0x100000 from HAVE_INTEL_FIRMWARE instead of the 0x200000 desired. This was due to the SOC_INTEL_SKYLAKE being after the HAVE_INTEL_FIRMWARE default. Affected boards were: Google chell, glados, & lars and Intel kunimitsu. The PSTATE mask bits for Debug exceptions, external Aborts, Interrupts and Fast interrupts are usually best left unset: under normal circumstances none of those exceptions should occur in firmware, and if they do it's better to get a crash close to the code that caused it (rather than much later when the kernel first unmasks them). For this reason arm64_cpu_init unmasks them right after boot. However, the EL2 payload was still running with all mask bits set, which this patch fixes. BL31, on the other hand, explicitly wants to be entered with all masks set (see calling convention in docs/firmware-design.md), which we had previously not been doing. It doesn't seem to make a difference at the moment, but since it's explicitly specified we should probably comply. 2016-02-10arch/arm64: mmu: Spot check TTB memory attributesJulius Werner
On ARM64, the memory type for accessing page table descriptors during address translation is governed by the Translation Control Register (TCR). When the MMU code accesses the same descriptors to change page mappings, it uses the standard memory type rules (defined by the page table descriptor for the page that contains that table, or 'device' if the MMU is off). Accessing the same memory with different memory types can lead to all kinds of fun and hard to debug effects. In particular, if the TCR says "cacheable" and the page tables say "uncacheable", page table walks will pull stale entries into the cache and later mmu_config_range() calls will write directly to memory, bypassing those cache lines. This means the translations will not get updated even after a TLB flush, and later cache flushes/evictions may write the stale entries back to memory. Since page table configuration is currently always done from SoC code, we can't generally ensure that the TTB is always mapped as cacheable. We can however save developers of future SoCs a lot of headaches and time by spot checking the attributes when the MMU gets enabled, as this patch does. BRANCH=None BUG=None TEST=Booted Oak.
