2021-03-08cbfs: Pull handling of the CBFS_CACHE mem_pool into CBFS coreJulius Werner
This patch pulls control of the memory pool serving allocations from the CBFS_CACHE memlayout area into cbfs.c and makes it a core part of the CBFS API. Previously, platforms would independently instantiate this as part of boot_device_ro() (mostly through cbfs_spi.c). The new cbfs_cache pool is exported as a global so these platforms can still use it to directly back rdev_mmap() on their boot device, but the cbfs_cache can now also use it to directly make allocations itself. This is used to allow transparent decompression support in cbfs_map(). 2020-12-02cbfs: Enable CBFS mcache on most chipsetsJulius Werner
This patch flips the default of CONFIG_NO_CBFS_MCACHE so the feature is enabled by default. Some older chipsets with insufficient SRAM/CAR space still have it explicitly disabled. All others get the new section added to their memlayout... 8K seems like a sane default to start with. 2020-06-13treewide: Add Kconfig variable MEMLAYOUT_LD_FILEFurquan Shaikh
This change defines a Kconfig variable MEMLAYOUT_LD_FILE which allows SoC/mainboard to provide a linker file for the platform. x86 already provides a default memlayout.ld under src/arch/x86. With this new Kconfig variable, it is possible for the SoC/mainboard code for x86 to provide a custom linker file as well. Makefile.inc is updated for all architectures to use this new Kconfig variable instead of assuming memlayout.ld files under a certain path. All non-x86 boards used memlayout.ld under mainboard directory. However, a lot of these boards were simply including the memlayout from SoC. So, this change also updates these mainboards and SoCs to define the Kconfig as required. BUG=b:155322763 TEST=Verified that abuild with --timeless option results in the same coreboot.rom image for all boards. 2020-03-18soc: Remove copyright noticesPatrick Georgi
They're listed in AUTHORS and often incorrect anyway, for example: - What's a "Copyright $year-present"? - Which incarnation of Google (Inc, LLC, ...) is the current copyright holder? - People sometimes have their editor auto-add themselves to files even though they only deleted stuff - Or they let the editor automatically update the copyright year, because why not? - Who is the copyright holder "The coreboot project Authors"? - Or "Generated Code"? Sidestep all these issues by simply not putting these notices in individual files, let's list all copyright holders in AUTHORS instead and use the git history to deal with the rest. 2019-11-14lib/fmap: Add optional pre-RAM cacheJulius Werner
This patch adds an optional pre-RAM cache for the FMAP which most platforms should be able to use, complementing the recently added post-RAM FMAP cache in CBMEM. vboot systems currently read the FMAP about half a dozen times from flash in verstage, which will all be coalesced into a single read with this patch. It will also help future vboot improvements since when FMAP reads become "free" vboot doesn't need to keep track of so much information separately. In order to make sure we have a single, well-defined point where the new cache is first initialized, eliminate the build-time hardcoding of the CBFS section offsets, so that all CBFS accesses explicitly read the FMAP. Add FMAP_CACHEs to all platforms that can afford it (other than the RISC-V things where I have no idea how they work), trying to take the space from things that look like they were oversized anyway (pre-RAM consoles and CBFS caches). 2019-02-22symbols.h: Add macro to define memlayout region symbolsJulius Werner
When <symbols.h> was first introduced, it only declared a handful of regions and we didn't expect that too many architectures and platforms would need to add their own later. However, our amount of platforms has greatly expanded since, and with them the need for more special memory regions. The amount of code duplication is starting to get unsightly, and platforms keep defining their own <soc/symbols.h> files that need this as well. This patch adds another macro to cut down the definition boilerplate. Unfortunately, macros cannot define other macros when they're called, so referring to region sizes as _name_size doesn't work anymore. This patch replaces the scheme with REGION_SIZE(name). Not touching the regions in the x86-specific <arch/symbols.h> yet since they don't follow the standard _region/_eregion naming scheme. They can be converted later if desired. The dependencies of CONSOLE_SERIAL and DRIVERS_UART were somehow backwards. Fix that. Now, CONSOLE_SERIAL depends on DRIVERS_UART, because it's using its interface. The individual UART drivers select DRIVERS_UART, because they implement the interface and depend on the common UART code. Some guards had to be fixed (using CONSOLE_SERIAL now instead of DRIVERS_UART). Some other guards that were only about compilation of units were removed. 2017-08-14i2c: Move to Linux like `struct i2c_msg`Nico Huber
Our current struct for I2C segments `i2c_seg` was close to being compa- tible to the Linux version `i2c_msg`, close to being compatible to SMBus and close to being readable (e.g. what was `chip` supposed to mean?) but turned out to be hard to fix. Instead of extending it in a backwards compatible way (and not touching current controller drivers), replace it with a Linux source compatible `struct i2c_msg` and patch all the drivers and users with Coccinelle. The new `struct i2c_msg` should ease porting drivers from Linux and help to write SMBus compatible controller drivers. Beside integer type changes, the field `read` is replaced with a generic field `flags` and `chip` is renamed to `slave`. Patched with Coccinelle using the clumsy spatch below and some manual changes: * Nested struct initializers and one field access skipped by Coccinelle. * Removed assumption in the code that I2C_M_RD is 1. * In `i2c.h`, changed all occurences of `chip` to `slave`. @@ @@ -struct i2c_seg +struct i2c_msg @@ identifier msg; expression e; @@ ( struct i2c_msg msg = { - .read = 0, + .flags = 0, }; | struct i2c_msg msg = { - .read = 1, + .flags = I2C_M_RD, }; | struct i2c_msg msg = { - .chip = e, + .slave = e, }; ) @@ struct i2c_msg msg; statement S1, S2; @@ ( -if (msg.read) +if (msg.flags & I2C_M_RD) S1 else S2 | -if (msg.read) +if (msg.flags & I2C_M_RD) S1 ) @@ struct i2c_msg *msg; statement S1, S2; @@ ( -if (msg->read) +if (msg->flags & I2C_M_RD) S1 else S2 | -if (msg->read) +if (msg->flags & I2C_M_RD) S1 ) @@ struct i2c_msg msg; expression e; @@ ( -msg.read = 0; +msg.flags = 0; | -msg.read = 1; +msg.flags = I2C_M_RD; | -msg.read = e; +msg.flags = e ? Some Chrome OS boards previously didn't have a hardcoded vboot configuration (e.g. STARTS_IN_BOOTBLOCK/_ROMSTAGE, SEPARATE_VERSTAGE, etc.) selected from their SoC and mainboard Kconfig files, and instead relied on the Chrome OS build system to pass in those options separately. Since there is usually only one "best" vboot configuration for a certain board and there is often board or SoC code specifically written with that configuration in mind (e.g. memlayout), these options should not be adjustable in menuconfig and instead always get selected by board and SoC Makefiles (as opposed to some external build system). (Removing MAINBOARD_HAS_CHROMEOS from Urara because vboot support for Pistachio/MIPS was never finished. Trying to enable even post-romstage vboot leads to weird compiler errors that I don't want to track down now. Let's stop pretending this board has working Chrome OS support because it never did.) 2016-11-22spi: Clean up SPI flash driver interfaceFurquan Shaikh
RW flag was added to spi_slave structure to get around a requirement on some AMD flash controllers that need to group together all spi volatile operations (write/erase). This rw flag is not a property or attribute of the SPI slave or controller. Thus, instead of saving it in spi_slave structure, clean up the SPI flash driver interface. This allows chipsets/mainboards (that require volatile operations to be grouped) to indicate beginning and end of such grouped operations. New user APIs are added to allow users to perform probe, read, write, erase, volatile group begin and end operations. Callbacks defined in spi_flash structure are expected to be used only by the SPI flash driver. Any chipset that requires grouping of volatile operations can select the newly added Kconfig option SPI_FLASH_HAS_VOLATILE_GROUP and define callbacks for chipset_volatile_group_{begin,end}. spi_claim_bus/spi_release_bus calls have been removed from the SPI flash chip drivers which end up calling do_spi_flash_cmd since it already has required calls for claiming and releasing SPI bus before performing a read/write operation. 2015-09-22linking: link bootblock.elf with .data and .bss sections againAaron Durbin
Currently coreboot expects the loader to clear the bss section for all stages. i.e. stages don't clear their own bss. On ARM SoCs the BootROM would be responsible for this. To do that one needs to include the bss section data (all zeros) in the bootblock.bin file. This was previously being attempted by keeping the .bss info in the .data section because objcopy happened zero out non-file allocated data section data. Instead go back to linking bootblock with the bss section but mark the bss section as loadable allocatable data. That way it will be included in the binary properly when objcopy -O binary is emplyed. Also do the same for the data section in the case of no non-zero object values are in the data section. Without this change the trick of including .bss in .data was not working when there wasn't a non-zero value object in the data section. 2015-06-02cbfs: new API and better program loadingAaron Durbin
A new CBFS API is introduced to allow making CBFS access easier for providing multiple CBFS sources. That is achieved by decoupling the cbfs source from a CBFS file. A CBFS source is described by a descriptor. It contains the necessary properties for walking a CBFS to locate a file. The CBFS file is then decoupled from the CBFS descriptor in that it's no longer needed to access the contents of the file. All of this is accomplished using the regions infrastructure by repsenting CBFS sources and files as region_devices. Because region_devices can be chained together forming subregions this allows one to decouple a CBFS source from a file. This also allows one to provide CBFS files that came from other sources for payload and/or stage loading. The program loading takes advantage of those very properties by allowing multiple sources for locating a program. Because of this we can reduce the overhead of loading programs because it's all done in the common code paths. Only locating the program is per source. The boot_device is a region_device that represents the device from which coreboot retrieves and boots its stages. 2015-04-14timer: Reestablish init_timer(), consolidate timer initialization callsJulius Werner
We have known for a while that the old x86 model of calling init_timer() in ramstage doesn't make sense on other archs (and is questionable in general), and finally removed it with CL:219719. However, now timer initialization is completely buried in the platform code, and it's hard to ensure it is done in time to set up timestamps. For three out of four non-x86 SoC vendors we have brought up for now, the timers need some kind of SoC-specific initialization. This patch reintroduces init_timer() as a weak function that can be overridden by platform code. The call in ramstage is restricted to x86 (and should probably eventually be removed from there as well), and other archs should call them at the earliest reasonable point in their bootblock. (Only changing arm for now since arm64 and mips bootblocks are still in very early state and should sync up to features in arm once their requirements are better understood.) This allows us to move timestamp_init() into arch code, so that we can rely on timestamps being available at a well-defined point and initialize our base value as early as possible. (Platforms who know that their timers start at zero can still safely call timestamp_init(0) again from platform code.) BRANCH=None BUG=None TEST=Booted Pinky, Blaze and Storm, compiled Daisy and Pit. 2015-04-14CBFS: Automate ROM image layout and remove hardcoded offsetsJulius Werner
Non-x86 boards currently need to hardcode the position of their CBFS master header in a Kconfig. This is very brittle because it is usually put in between the bootblock and the first CBFS entry, without any checks to guarantee that it won't overlap either of those. It is not fun to debug random failures that move and disappear with tiny alignment changes because someone decided to write "ORBC1112" over some part of your data section (in a way that is not visible in the symbolized .elf binaries, only in the final image). This patch seeks to prevent those issues and reduce the need for manual configuration by making the image layout a completely automated part of cbfstool. Since automated placement of the CBFS header means we can no longer hardcode its position into coreboot, this patch takes the existing x86 solution of placing a pointer to the header at the very end of the CBFS-managed section of the ROM and generalizes it to all architectures. This is now even possible with the read-only/read-write split in ChromeOS, since coreboot knows how large that section is from the CBFS_SIZE Kconfig (which is by default equal to ROM_SIZE, but can be changed on systems that place other data next to coreboot/CBFS in ROM). Also adds a feature to cbfstool that makes the -B (bootblock file name) argument on image creation optional, since we have recently found valid use cases for CBFS images that are not the first boot medium of the device (instead opened by an earlier bootloader that can already interpret CBFS) and therefore don't really need a bootblock. 2015-04-10gpio: Extend common GPIO header, simplify function namesJulius Werner
We've had gpiolib.h which defines a few common GPIO access functions for a while, but it wasn't really complete. This patch adds the missing gpio_output() function, and also renames the unwieldy gpio_get_in_value() and gpio_set_out_value() to the much easier to handle gpio_get() and gpio_set(). The header is renamed to the simpler gpio.h while we're at it (there was never really anything "lib" about it, and it was presumably just chosen due to the IPQ806x include/ conflict problem that is now resolved). It also moves the definition of gpio_t into SoC-specific code, so that different implementations are free to encode their platform-specific GPIO parameters in those 4 bytes in the most convenient way (such as the rk3288 with a bitfield struct). Every SoC intending to use this common API should supply a <soc/gpio.h> that typedefs gpio_t to a type at most 4 bytes in length. Files accessing the API only need to include <gpio.h> which may pull in additional things (like a gpio_t creation macro) from <soc/gpio.h> on its own. For now the API is still only used on non-x86 SoCs. Whether it makes sense to expand it to x86 as well should be separately evaluated at a later point (by someone who understands those systems better). Also, Exynos retains its old, incompatible GPIO API even though it would be a prime candidate, because it's currently just not worth the effort. 2015-04-06New mechanism to define SRAM/memory map with automatic bounds checkingJulius Werner
This patch creates a new mechanism to define the static memory layout (primarily in SRAM) for a given board, superseding the brittle mass of Kconfigs that we were using before. The core part is a memlayout.ld file in the mainboard directory (although boards are expected to just include the SoC default in most cases), which is the primary linker script for all stages (though not rmodules for now). It uses preprocessor macros from <memlayout.h> to form a different valid linker script for all stages while looking like a declarative, boilerplate-free map of memory addresses to the programmer. Linker asserts will automatically guarantee that the defined regions cannot overlap. Stages are defined with a maximum size that will be enforced by the linker. The file serves to both define and document the memory layout, so that the documentation cannot go missing or out of date. The mechanism is implemented for all boards in the ARM, ARM64 and MIPS architectures, and should be extended onto all systems using SRAM in the future. The CAR/XIP environment on x86 has very different requirements and the layout is generally not as static, so it will stay like it is and be unaffected by this patch (save for aligning some symbol names for consistency and sharing the new common ramstage linker script include). BUG=None TEST=Booted normally and in recovery mode, checked suspend/resume and the CBMEM console on Falco, Blaze (both normal and vboot2), Pinky and Pit. Compiled Ryu, Storm and Urara, manually compared the disassemblies with ToT and looked for red flags. 2015-04-06Add predefined __ROMSTAGE__ and __RAMSTAGE__ macrosJulius Werner
This patch adds the macros __ROMSTAGE__ and __RAMSTAGE__ which get predefined in their respective stages by make, so that we have one specific macro for every stage. It also renames __BOOT_BLOCK__ and __VER_STAGE__ to __BOOTBLOCK__ and __VERSTAGE__ for consistency. This change is intended to provide finer control and clearer communication of intent after we added a new (optional) stage that falls under __PRE_RAM__, and will hopefully provide some robustness for the future (we don't want to end up always checking for romstage with #if defined(__PRE_RAM__) && !defined(__BOOT_BLOCK__) && !defined(__VER_STAGE__) && !defined(__YET_ANOTHER_PRERAM_STAGE__)). The __PRE_RAM__ macro stays as it is since many features do in fact need to differentiate on whether RAM is available. (Some also depend on whether RAM is available at the end of a stage, in which case #if !defined(__PRE_RAM__) || defined(__ROMSTAGE__) should now be authoritative.) It's unfeasable to change all existing occurences of __PRE_RAM__ that would be better described with __ROMSTAGE__, so this patch only demonstratively changes a few obvious ones in core code. BUG=None TEST=None (tested together with dependent patch). 2015-03-17coreboot classes: Add dynamic classes to corebootFurquan Shaikh
Provide functionality to create dynamic classes based on program name and the architecture for which the program needs to be compiled/linked. define_class takes program_name and arch as its arguments and adds the program_name to classes-y to create dynamic class and compiler toolset is created for the specified arch. All the files for this program can then be added to program_name-y += .. Ensure that define_class is called before any files are added to the class. Check subdirs-y for order of directory inclusion. One such example of dynamic class is rmodules. Multiple rmodules can be used which need to be compiled for different architectures. With dynamic classes, this is possible.
