2019-05-19timestamp: Update TIMESTAMP_CACHE_IN_BSS to include ENV_POSTCARFurquan Shaikh
With CB:32726 ("lib/timestamp: Make timestamp_sync_cache_to_cbmem() in postcar") timestamps are synced from cache to cbmem in postcar as well. For postcar, the cache lives in BSS just like ramstage. This change updates TIMESTAMP_CACHE_IN_BSS to include both ramstage and postcar and uses this instead of ENV_RAMSTAGE to check for cache location. Ideally, it would be good to get rid of timestamp cache in postcar and ramstage completely since early cbmem init is enabled by default in coreboot and it is guaranteed that cbmem is recovered before timestamps are added in ramstage or postcar. This change is being pushed in as a temporary fix while I make the changes to remove timestamp cache from romstage and postcar completely. 2019-02-22symbols.h: Add macro to define memlayout region symbolsJulius Werner
When <symbols.h> was first introduced, it only declared a handful of regions and we didn't expect that too many architectures and platforms would need to add their own later. However, our amount of platforms has greatly expanded since, and with them the need for more special memory regions. The amount of code duplication is starting to get unsightly, and platforms keep defining their own <soc/symbols.h> files that need this as well. This patch adds another macro to cut down the definition boilerplate. Unfortunately, macros cannot define other macros when they're called, so referring to region sizes as _name_size doesn't work anymore. This patch replaces the scheme with REGION_SIZE(name). Not touching the regions in the x86-specific <arch/symbols.h> yet since they don't follow the standard _region/_eregion naming scheme. They can be converted later if desired. Its spreading copies got out of sync. And as it is not a standard header but used in commonlib code, it belongs into commonlib. While we are at it, always include it via GCC's `-include` switch. Some Windows and BSD quirk handling went into the util copies. We always guard from redefinitions now to prevent further issues. 2017-09-14timestamp: Add function to get time since bootWerner Zeh
Add a function to retrieve the elapsed time since boot. For that purpose use the base time in the timestamp table among with the current timestamp at call time of the function. So more precise the returned time is the elapsed time since the timestamp was initialized scaled in microseconds. This was chosen to get a reliable value even on platforms where the TSC might not be reset on software reset or warm start. 2016-08-23memlayout: Ensure TIMESTAMP() region is big enough to avoid BUG()Julius Werner
The timestamp code asserts that the _timestamp region (allocated in memlayout for pre-RAM stages) is large enough for the assumptions it makes. This is good, except that we often initialize timestamps extremely early in the bootblock, even before console output. Debugging a BUG() that hits before console_init() is no fun. This patch adds a link-time assertion for the size of the _timestamp region in memlayout to prevent people from accidentally running into this issue. 2016-05-19lib/timestamp: Do not initialize cache in timestamp_cache_get()Alexandru Gagniuc
timestamp_cache_get() would call timestamp_cache_init() whenever it found a timestamp cache in the TIMESTAMP_CACHE_UNINITIALIZED state. That means that timestamp_cache_get() will never reurn a cache in the uninitialized state. However, timestamp_init() checks against the uninitialized state, as it does not expect timestamp_cache_get() to perform any initialization. As a result, the conditional branch can never be reached. Simply remove the timestamp_cache_init() call from timestamp_cache_get(). This patch generalizes the approach previously used for ARM32 TTB_SUBTABLES to "auto-detect" whether a certain region was defined in memlayout.ld. This allows us to get rid of the explicit Kconfig for the TIMESTAMP region, reducing configuration redundancy and avoiding confusion when setting up future boards. (Removing armv4/bootblock_simple.c because it references this Kconfig and it is a dead file that I just forgot to remove in CL:12076.) Since we're reaching the timestamp limit on certain platforms (both for the pre-RAM cache and the final CBMEM region), this patch increases the amount of space for both. In the pre-RAM case, it achieves this by always utilizing the full size of the TIMESTAMP() region allocated in memlayout.ld, rather than arbitrarily limiting it to some constant. 2015-11-24lib/timestamp.c: only log "Timestamp table full" onceBen Gardner
If the timestamp table gets corrupted (separate issue), the timestamp_sync_cache_to_cbmem() function may add a large number of bogus timestamp entries. This causes a flood of "ERROR: Timestamp table full". With logs going to a serial console, this renders the system essentially unbootable. There really isn't a need to log that more than once, so log it when the last slot in the timestamp table is filled. 2015-08-31timestamp: add tick frequency to exported tableAaron Durbin
Add the timestamp tick frequency within the timestamp table so the cbmem utility doesn't try to figure it out on its own. Those paths still exist for x86 systems which don't provide tsc_freq_mhz(). All other non-x86 systems use the monotonic timer which has a 1us granularity or 1MHz. One of the main reasons is that Linux is reporting /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq as the true turbo frequency on turbo enables machines. This change also fixes the p-state values honored in cpufreq for turbo machines in that turbo p-pstates were reported as 100MHz greater than nominal. Commit bd1499d3 fixed a bug to not re-initialize the timestamp cache in ramstage for EARLY_CBMEM_INIT. However, EARLY_CBMEM_INIT was not included. Therefore, add this condition. This will result in base_time being initialized to the passed in timestamp for !EARLY_CBMEM_INIT platforms. 2015-07-10timestamps: don't drop ramstage timestamps with EARLY_CBMEM_INITAaron Durbin
While running ramstage with the EARLY_CBMEM_INIT config the timestamp cache was re-initialized and subsequently used. The result was that the ramstage timestamps would be dropped from cbmem. The reason is that the ramstage timestamps perpetually lived in ramstage BSS never getting sync'd back into cbmem. The fix is to honor the cache state in ramstage in the timestamp_init() path. Also, make cache_state a fixed bit width to allow for different architectures across the pre-ramstage stages. TEST=Used qemu-armv7 as a test harness with debugging info. In order to accommodate tracking timestamps in all the __PRE_RAM__ stages (bootblock, verstage, romstage, etc) of a platform one needs to provide a way to specify a persistent region of SRAM or cache-as-ram to store the timestamps until cbmem comes online. 2015-06-09cbmem: Unify CBMEM init tasks with CBMEM_INIT_HOOK() APIKyösti Mälkki
Squashed and adjusted two changes from chromium.git. Covers CBMEM init for ROMTAGE and RAMSTAGE. cbmem: Unify random on-CBMEM-init tasks under common CBMEM_INIT_HOOK() API There are several use cases for performing a certain task when CBMEM is first set up (usually to migrate some data into it that was previously kept in BSS/SRAM/hammerspace), and unfortunately we handle each of them differently: timestamp migration is called explicitly from cbmem_initialize(), certain x86-chipset-specific tasks use the CAR_MIGRATION() macro to register a hook, and the CBMEM console is migrated through a direct call from romstage (on non-x86 and SandyBridge boards). This patch decouples the CAR_MIGRATION() hook mechanism from cache-as-RAM and rechristens it to CBMEM_INIT_HOOK(), which is a clearer description of what it really does. All of the above use cases are ported to this new, consistent model, allowing us to have one less line of boilerplate in non-CAR romstages. Oops. This patch fixes the issue by extending the CBMEM_INIT_HOOK() mechanism to the cbmem_initialize() call in ramstage. The macro is split into explicit ROMSTAGE_/RAMSTAGE_ versions to make the behavior as clear as possible and prevent surprises (although just using a single macro and relying on the Makefiles to link an object into all appropriate stages would also work). This allows us to get rid of the explicit cbmemc_reinit() in ramstage (which I somehow accounted for in the last patch without realizing that timestamps work exactly the same way...), and replace the older and less flexible cbmem_arch_init() mechanism. Also added a size assertion for the pre-RAM CBMEM console to memlayout that could prevent a very unlikely buffer overflow I just noticed. 2015-05-26timestamp: Fix collection without EARLY_CBMEM_INITKyösti Mälkki
With LATE_CBMEM_INIT, do not search for the initial collection from CBMEM in ramstage. On S3 resume this would find the non-empty collection from previous run of ramstage. Start with an empty table instead. Remove a spurious error message as the stamps get stashed and will be copied to CBMEM later. 2015-05-07timestamp: fix incremental linking error for !HAVE_MONOTONIC_TIMERAaron Durbin
In linking ramstage a single object file is created before linking with the linker script. Though there is a weak timestamp_get() symbol in timestamp.c any of its dependent symbols need to be available during the incremental link. As not all platforms have HAVE_MONOTONIC_TIMER enabled this will create a linking error. Fix this by providing a hint to the compiler to remove dead code and thus the dependent symbols causing linking errors in the presence of !HAVE_MONOTONIC_TIMER. Now that we have timestamps in pre-RAM stages, let's actually make use of them. This patch adds several timestamps to both the bootblock and especially the verstage to allow more fine-grained boot time tracking. Some of the introduced timestamps can appear more than once per boot. This doesn't seem to be a problem for both coreboot and the cbmem utility, and the context makes it clear which operation was timestamped at what point. Also simplifies cbmem's timestamp printing routine a bit, fixing a display bug when a timestamp had a section of exactly ",000," in it (e.g. 1,000,185). In hardwaremain() we can't add timestamps before we actually reinitialized the cbmem area. Hence we kept the timestamps in an array and added them later. This is ugly and intrusive and helped hiding a bug that prevented any timestamps to be logged in hardwaremain() when coming out of an S3 resume. The problem is solved by moving the logic to keep a few timestamps around into the timestamp code. This patch adds code to initialize the time stamp collection facility in coreboot. It adds a table in the CBMEM section, which provides the base timer reading value (all other readings are offsets of this one) and an array of timestamp id/timestamp value pairs. Just two values are being added now, this will have to be used more extensively and also integrated into payloads to provide more comprehensive boot process time measurements. Also, since the CBMEM area could already contain a section (from the previous run, before reset), when processing a section addition request we should check if a section already exists and return its address, if so.
