We introduce two new functions to create region objects. They allow us
to check for integer overflows (region_create_untrusted()) or assert
their absence (region_create()).
This fixes potential overflows in region_overlap() checks in SMI
handlers, where we would wrongfully report MMIO as *not* overlapping
SMRAM.
Also, two cases of strtol() in parse_region() (cbfstool), where the
results were implicitly converted to `size_t`, are replaced with the
unsigned strtoul().
FIT payload support is left out, as it doesn't use the region API
(only the struct).

Always use the high-level API region_offset() and region_sz()
functions. This excludes the internal `region.c` code as well
as unit tests. FIT payload support was also skipped, as it
seems it never tried to use the API and would need a bigger
overhaul.

This is a fixup to CB:78914 which inadvertently broke the RK3288 SoC.
Unfortunately we can only accommodate very little PRERAM_CBFS_CACHE in
the tiny SRAM for that chip, so we would not be able to map an entire
FMAP. Solve this problem for now by mapping less space when CBFS
verification is disabled, and disallowing CBFS verification on that SoC.

When the FMAP cache is enabled, it cannot fail in pre-RAM stages unless
flash I/O in general doesn't work. Therefore, it is unnecessary and a
waste of binary size to also link a fallback path for this case.
Similarly, once the cache is written to CAR/SRAM/CBMEM there should be
no way for it to become magically corrupted between boot stages. Many
other parts of coreboot blindly assume that persistent memory stays
valid between stages so there is no reason why this code should link in
extra fallback paths in case it doesn't.
This saves a little over 200 bytes per affected (uncompressed) stage on
aarch64.

A recent security audit has exposed a TOCTOU risk in the FMAP
verification code: if the flash returns a tampered FMAP during the first
setup_preram_cache(), we will abort generating the cache but only after
already filling the persistent CAR/SRAM region with the tampered
version. Then we will fall back into the direct access path, which could
succeed if the flash now returns the original valid FMAP. In later
stages, we will just use the data from the persistent CAR/SRAM region as
long as it looks like an FMAP without verifying the hash again (because
the hash is only linked into the initial stage).
This patch fixes the issue by just calling die() immediately if FMAP
hash verification fails. When the verification fails, there's no
recourse anyway -- if we're not dying here we would be dying in
cbfs_get_boot_device() instead. There is no legitimate scenario where
it would still be possible to continue booting after this hash
verification fails.

The rarely-used fallback path for accessing the FMAP without a cache
currently only maps the FMAP header for the initial verify_fmap() call.
This used to be fine when we were just checking the magic number, but
with CBFS verification we may need to hash the entire FMAP.
Since this path is so rarely used anyway and the size difference only
has a practical impact on a few platforms, lets keep things simple and
just always map the whole FMAP.

There are efforts to have bootflows that do not follow a traditional
bootblock-romstage-postcar-ramstage model. As part of that CBMEM
initialisation hooks will need to move from romstage to bootblock.
The interface towards platforms and drivers will change to use one of
CBMEM_CREATION_HOOK() or CBMEM_READY_HOOK(). Former will only be called
in the first stage with CBMEM available.

Now that the console system itself will clearly differentiate loglevels,
it is no longer necessary to explicitly add "ERROR: " in front of every
BIOS_ERR message to help it stand out more (and allow automated tooling
to grep for it). Removing all these extra .rodata characters should save
us a nice little amount of binary size.
This patch was created by running
find src/ -type f -exec perl -0777 -pi -e 's/printk\(\s*BIOS_ERR,\s*"ERROR: /printk\(BIOS_ERR, "/gi' '{}' ';'
and doing some cursory review/cleanup on the result. Then doing the same

We had the addrspace_32bit rdev in prog_loaders.c for a while to help
represent memory ranges as an rdev, and we've found it useful for a
couple of things that have nothing to do with program loading. This
patch moves the concept straight into commonlib/region.c so it is no
longer anchored in such a weird place, and easier to use in unit tests.
Also expand the concept to the whole address space (there's no real need
to restrict it to 32 bits in 64-bit environments) and introduce an
rdev_chain_mem() helper function to make it a bit easier to use. Replace
some direct uses of struct mem_region_device with this new API where it
seems to make sense.

This patch adds the first stage of the new CONFIG_CBFS_VERIFICATION
feature. It's not useful to end-users in this stage so it cannot be
selected in menuconfig (and should not be used other than for
development) yet. With this patch coreboot can verify the metadata hash
of the RO CBFS when it starts booting, but it does not verify individual
files yet. Likewise, verifying RW CBFSes with vboot is not yet
supported.
Verification is bootstrapped from a "metadata hash anchor" structure
that is embedded in the bootblock code and marked by a unique magic
number. This anchor contains both the CBFS metadata hash and a separate
hash for the FMAP which is required to find the primary CBFS. Both are
verified on first use in the bootblock (and halt the system on failure).
The CONFIG_TOCTOU_SAFETY option is also added for illustrative purposes
to show some paths that need to be different when full protection
against TOCTOU (time-of-check vs. time-of-use) attacks is desired. For
normal verification it is sufficient to check the FMAP and the CBFS
metadata hash only once in the bootblock -- for TOCTOU verification we
do the same, but we need to be extra careful that we do not re-read the
FMAP or any CBFS metadata in later stages. This is mostly achieved by
depending on the CBFS metadata cache and FMAP cache features, but we
allow for one edge case in case the RW CBFS metadata cache overflows
(which may happen during an RW update and could otherwise no longer be
fixed because mcache size is defined by RO code). This code is added to
demonstrate design intent but won't really matter until RW CBFS
verification can be supported.

- What's a "Copyright $year-present"?
- Which incarnation of Google (Inc, LLC, ...) is the current

- People sometimes have their editor auto-add themselves to files even

- Or they let the editor automatically update the copyright year,
because why not?
- Who is the copyright holder "The coreboot project Authors"?

Sidestep all these issues by simply not putting these notices in

This patch creates a new commonlib/bsd subdirectory with a similar
purpose to the existing commonlib, with the difference that all files
under this subdirectory shall be licensed under the BSD-3-Clause license
(or compatible permissive license). The goal is to allow more code to be
shared with libpayload in the future.
Initially, I'm going to move a few files there that have already been
BSD-licensed in the existing commonlib. I am also exracting most
contents of the often-needed <commonlib/helpers.h> as long as they have
either been written by me (and are hereby relicensed) or have an
existing equivalent in BSD-licensed libpayload code. I am also
relicensing <commonlib/compression.h> (written by me) and
<commonlib/compiler.h> (same stuff exists in libpayload).
Finally, I am extracting the cb_err error code definitions from
<types.h> into a new BSD-licensed header so that future commonlib/bsd
code can build upon a common set of error values. I am making the
assumption here that the enum constants and the half-sentence fragments
of documentation next to them by themselves do not meet the threshold of
copyrightability.

Due to the way CAR teardown is handled in FSP 1.0, the results of
car_get_var_ptr() aren't always reliable, which can break things when
running with FMAP cache. It might be possible to fix this but would make
the code rather complicated, so let's just disable the feature on these
platforms and hope they die out soon.
Also allow this option to be used by platforms that don't have space for

This patch adds an optional pre-RAM cache for the FMAP which most
platforms should be able to use, complementing the recently added
post-RAM FMAP cache in CBMEM. vboot systems currently read the FMAP
about half a dozen times from flash in verstage, which will all be
coalesced into a single read with this patch. It will also help
future vboot improvements since when FMAP reads become "free" vboot
doesn't need to keep track of so much information separately.
In order to make sure we have a single, well-defined point where the new
cache is first initialized, eliminate the build-time hardcoding of the
CBFS section offsets, so that all CBFS accesses explicitly read the
FMAP.
Add FMAP_CACHEs to all platforms that can afford it (other than the
RISC-V things where I have no idea how they work), trying to take the
space from things that look like they were oversized anyway (pre-RAM
consoles and CBFS caches).

CB:35377 changed the behavior of find_fmap_directory() to return
pointer to CBMEM_ID_FMAP if fmap is cached in
cbmem. lb_boot_media_params() calls find_fmap_directory to add offset
of fmap in flash to coreboot table. However, because of the change in
behavior of find_fmap_directory(), it ended up adding 0 as the offset.
This change adds a new function get_fmap_flash_offset() which returns
the offset of fmap in flash. Ideally, all payloads should move to
using the FMAP from CBMEM. However, in order to maintain compatibility
with payloads which are not updated, ensure that fmap_offset is
updated correctly.
Since find_fmap_directory() is no longer used outside fmap.c, this
change also removes it from fmap.h and limits scope to fmap.c.
In a follow up patch, we need to push a change to libpayload to expose
the fmap cache pointer to lib_sysinfo.

Reduce the debug output from FMAP lookups. When we had one or
two FMAP lookups in a boot this was not a big deal, but now that
we do many lookups it is a lot of unnecessary output duplication.
This change reduces these 3 lines:
FMAP: area VBLOCK_A found
FMAP: offset: 200000
FMAP: size: 65536 bytes
To just one line:
FMAP: area VBLOCK_A found @ 200000 (65536 bytes)
And makes the header output only print once:
FMAP: Found "FMAP" version 1.0 at c10000.
FMAP: base = 0 size = 1000000 #areas = 29

TEST=boot on chell and enjoy non-truncated memconsole

It encourages users from writing to the FSF without giving an address.
Linux also prefers to drop that and their checkpatch.pl (that we
imported) looks out for that.
This is the result of util/scripts/no-fsf-addresses.sh with no further
editing.

Instead of reaching into src/include and re-writing code
allow for cleaner code sharing within coreboot and its
utilities. The additional thing needed at this point is
for the utilities to provide a printk() declaration within
a <console/console.h> file. That way code which uses printk()
can than be mapped properly to verbosity of utility parameters.

The fmap directory can be useful to pass to the payload. For that, we need to
be able to get it.

vboot passes around the offset and size of the region to use in later stages.
To assign more meaning to this pair, provide a function that returns the
fmap area name if there's a precise match (and an error otherwise).

Instead of being pointer based use the region infrastrucutre.
Additionally, this removes the need for arch-specific compilation
paths. The users of the new API can use the region APIs to memory
map or read the region provided by the new fmap API.
