2022-05-23cpu/x86/smm: Remove heapArthur Heymans
Currently no smihandler uses heap. coreboot's heap manager also is quite limited in what it will free (only the latest alloc). This makes it a bad idea to use it inside the smihandler, as depending on the alloc usage the heap might actually be full at some point, breaking the smihandler. This also reduces the ramstage by 448 bytes on google/vilboz. 2022-05-20lib/Makefile.inc: Add cbfs header pointer on !BOOTBLOCK_IN_CBFSArthur Heymans
On some x86 targets it the bootblock is loaded via a different mechanism, like via the AMD PSP or Intel IFWI. Some payloads need that pointer so add it to cbfs. Note that on Intel APL this file is not used, which is why the bootblock still needs to contain the pointer in the ARCH_X86 part. It is not worth it to add logic to specifically deal with APL as this is a legacy feature anyway. For AMD non-car platform this fixes cbfs access in SeaBIOS. 2022-05-12Makefile.inc: Generate master header and pointer as C structsArthur Heymans
The makefiles don't like cbfs file names with spaces in them so update the file name with '_' instead of spaces. To keep the master header at the top of cbfs, add a placeholder. This removes the need to handle the cbfs master header in cbfstool. This functionality will be dropped in a later CL. On x86 reserve some space in the linker script to add the pointer. On non-x86 generate a pointer inside a C struct file. As a bonus this would actually fix the master header pointer mechanism on Intel/APL as only the bootblock inside IFWI gets memory mapped. TESTED on thinkpad X201: SeaBIOS correctly finds the cbfs master header. 2022-03-09cpu/x86/smm,lib/cbmem_console: Enable CBMEMC when using DEBUG_SMIRaul E Rangel
This change will allow the SMI handler to write to the cbmem console buffer. Normally SMIs can only be debugged using some kind of serial port (UART). By storing the SMI logs into cbmem we can debug SMIs using `cbmem -1`. Now that these logs are available to the OS we could also verify there were no errors in the SMI handler. Since SMM can write to all of DRAM, we can't trust any pointers provided by cbmem after the OS has booted. For this reason we store the cbmem console pointer as part of the SMM runtime parameters. The cbmem console is implemented as a circular buffer so it will never write outside of this area. BUG=b:221231786 TEST=Boot non-serial FW with DEBUG_SMI and verified SMI messages are visible when running `cbmem -1`. Perform a suspend/resume cycle and verify new SMI events are written to the cbmem console log. When a new variant is created, it needs to have a path to its SPD binary defined. Currently, this is done by setting SPD_SOURCES to a placeholder SPD file, which just contains zero bytes. To remove the need for a placeholder file, automatically generate a single-byte spd.bin in lib/Makefile.inc when SPD_SOURCES is set to the marker value 'placeholder'. 2021-05-30drivers/pc80/mc146818rtc: Check date and time for sanityWerner Zeh
There are cases where the RTC_VRT bit in register D stays set after a power failure while the real date and time registers can contain rubbish values (can happen when RTC is not buffered). If we do not detect this invalid date and/or time here and keep it, Linux will use these bad values for the initial timekeeper init. This in turn can lead to dates before 1970 in user land which can break a lot assumptions. To fix this, check date and time sanity when the RTC is initialized and reset the values if needed. 2021-04-06decompressor: Add CBFS_VERIFICATION supportJulius Werner
CBFS_VERIFICATION requires the CBFS metadata hash anchor to be linked into an uncompressed stage, but for platforms using COMPRESS_BOOTBLOCK, this is only the decompressor stage. The first CBFS accesses are made in the bootblock stage after decompression, so if we want to make CBFS_VERIFICATION work on those platforms, we have to pass the metadata hash anchor from the decompressor into the bootblock. This patch does just that. (Note that this relies on the decompressor data remaining valid in memory for as long as the metadata hash anchor is needed. This is always true even for OVERLAP_DECOMPRESSOR_ROMSTAGE() situations because the FMAP and CBFS metadata necessarily need to have finished verification before a new stage could be loaded.) 2020-12-14src/lib: Add Kconfig option for SPD cache in FMAPMatt DeVillier
Currently, the option to cache DIMM SPD data in an FMAP region is closely coupled to a single board (google/hatch) and requires a custom FMAP to utilize. Loosen this coupling by introducing a Kconfig option which adds a correctly sized and aligned RW_SPD_CACHE region to the default FMAP. Add a Kconfig option for the region name, replacing the existing hard- coded instance in spd_cache.h. Change the inclusion of spd_cache.c to use this new Kconfig, rather than the board-specific one currently used. Lastly, have google/hatch select the new Kconfig when appropriate to ensure no change in current functionality. Test: build/boot WYVERN google/hatch variant with default FMAP, verify FMAP contains RW_SPD_CACHE, verify SPD cache used via cbmem log. Also tested on an out-of-tree Purism board. 2020-12-14drivers: Replace multiple fill_lb_framebuffer with single instancePatrick Rudolph
Currently it's not possible to add multiple graphics drivers into one coreboot image. This patch series will fix this issue by providing a single API that multiple graphics drivers can use. This is required for platforms that have two graphic cards, but different graphic drivers, like Intel+Aspeed on server platforms or Intel+Nvidia on consumer notebooks. The goal is to remove duplicated fill_fb_framebuffer(), the advertisment of multiple independent framebuffers in coreboot tables, and better runtime/build time graphic configuration options. Replace all duplications of fill_fb_framebuffer and provide a single one in edid_fill_fb.c. Should not change the current behaviour as still only one graphic driver can be active at time. 2020-12-03cbfs: Add verification for RO CBFS metadata hashJulius Werner
This patch adds the first stage of the new CONFIG_CBFS_VERIFICATION feature. It's not useful to end-users in this stage so it cannot be selected in menuconfig (and should not be used other than for development) yet. With this patch coreboot can verify the metadata hash of the RO CBFS when it starts booting, but it does not verify individual files yet. Likewise, verifying RW CBFSes with vboot is not yet supported. Verification is bootstrapped from a "metadata hash anchor" structure that is embedded in the bootblock code and marked by a unique magic number. This anchor contains both the CBFS metadata hash and a separate hash for the FMAP which is required to find the primary CBFS. Both are verified on first use in the bootblock (and halt the system on failure). The CONFIG_TOCTOU_SAFETY option is also added for illustrative purposes to show some paths that need to be different when full protection against TOCTOU (time-of-check vs. time-of-use) attacks is desired. For normal verification it is sufficient to check the FMAP and the CBFS metadata hash only once in the bootblock -- for TOCTOU verification we do the same, but we need to be extra careful that we do not re-read the FMAP or any CBFS metadata in later stages. This is mostly achieved by depending on the CBFS metadata cache and FMAP cache features, but we allow for one edge case in case the RW CBFS metadata cache overflows (which may happen during an RW update and could otherwise no longer be fixed because mcache size is defined by RO code). This code is added to demonstrate design intent but won't really matter until RW CBFS verification can be supported. Looks like the option is generally not compatible with garbage collections. Nothing gets inlined, for example is_smp_boot() no longer evaluates to constant false and thus the symbols from secondary.S would need to be present for the build to pass even if we set SMP=n. Also the addresses of relocatable ramstage are currently not normalised on the logs, so util/genprof would be unable dress those. This fixes the hex-to-bin conversion command, used to generated binary SPD files from hexdumps. An issue that only appeared on one of my systems, where conversion of '01 02 03' to binary resulted in \x01\x32\x03 instead of \x01\x02\x03: for c in 01 02 03; do printf $(printf '\%o' 0x$c); done | xxd -g 1 00000000: 01 32 03 .2. The reason for this was that the syntax in lib/Makefile.inc is wrong, because the backslash must be escaped due to chaining two printf commands. 2020-06-02fw_config: Add firmware configuration interfaceDuncan Laurie
This change introduces a new top-level interface for interacting with a bitmask providing firmware configuration information. This is motivated by Chromebook mainboards that need to support multiple different configurations at runtime with the same BIOS. In these devices the Embedded Controller provides a bitmask that can be broken down into different fields and each field can then be broken down into different options. The firmware configuration value could also be stored in CBFS and this interface will look in CBFS first to allow the Embedded Controller value to be overridden. The firmware configuration interface is intended to easily integrate into devicetree.cb and lead to less code duplication for new mainboards that make use of this feature. They're listed in AUTHORS and often incorrect anyway, for example: - What's a "Copyright $year-present"? - Which incarnation of Google (Inc, LLC, ...) is the current copyright holder? - People sometimes have their editor auto-add themselves to files even though they only deleted stuff - Or they let the editor automatically update the copyright year, because why not? - Who is the copyright holder "The coreboot project Authors"? - Or "Generated Code"? Sidestep all these issues by simply not putting these notices in individual files, let's list all copyright holders in AUTHORS instead and use the git history to deal with the rest. 2019-11-14lib/fmap: Add optional pre-RAM cacheJulius Werner
This patch adds an optional pre-RAM cache for the FMAP which most platforms should be able to use, complementing the recently added post-RAM FMAP cache in CBMEM. vboot systems currently read the FMAP about half a dozen times from flash in verstage, which will all be coalesced into a single read with this patch. It will also help future vboot improvements since when FMAP reads become "free" vboot doesn't need to keep track of so much information separately. In order to make sure we have a single, well-defined point where the new cache is first initialized, eliminate the build-time hardcoding of the CBFS section offsets, so that all CBFS accesses explicitly read the FMAP. Add FMAP_CACHEs to all platforms that can afford it (other than the RISC-V things where I have no idea how they work), trying to take the space from things that look like they were oversized anyway (pre-RAM consoles and CBFS caches). Add explicit CBMEM_STAGE_CACHE option. Rename CACHE_RELOCATED_RAMSTAGE_OUTSIDE_CBMEM to TSEG_STAGE_CACHE. Platforms with SMM_TSEG=y always need to implement stage_cache_external_region(). It is allowed to return with a region of size 0 to effectively disable the cache. There are no provisions in Kconfig to degrade from TSEG_STAGE_CACHE to CBMEM_STAGE_CACHE. As a security measure CBMEM_STAGE_CACHE default is changed to disabled. AGESA platforms without TSEG will experience slower S3 resume speed unless they explicitly select the option. So far the bootsplash is only correctly rendered if the framebuffer is set up as 1024x768@16. Different resolutions did not show anything, differnent depth resulted in the distorted images. This commit removes this limit by using the actual framebuffer resolutions and combines the code for x86 and yabel. For the moment the bootsplash is still limited to VGA-OptionROM framebuffer init. It was tested in 1280x1024@32 on the wip razer blade stealth using the intel vgabios. There's no clear reason why most of coreboot's basic string functions are static inline. These functions don't particularly benefit from inlining (at least not notably more than other functions). This patch moves them to string.c to be more consistent with our usual coding practices. Leaving the ctype functions as static inline because they actually seem small and collapsible enough that inlining seems reasonable. Also clarified the situation of strdup() and strconcat() a bit more, optimized strrchr() to be single-pass, fixed a bug with using strchr() to find '\0' and got rid of unnecessary register keywords. 2018-05-22Introduce bootblock self-decompressionJulius Werner
Masked ROMs are the silent killers of boot speed on devices without memory-mapped SPI flash. They often contain awfully slow SPI drivers (presumably bit-banged) that take hundreds of milliseconds to load our bootblock, and every extra kilobyte of bootblock size has a hugely disproportionate impact on boot speed. The coreboot timestamps can never show that component, but it impacts our users all the same. This patch tries to alleviate that issue a bit by allowing us to compress the bootblock with LZ4, which can cut its size down to nearly half. Of course, masked ROMs usually don't come with decompression algorithms built in, so we need to introduce a little decompression stub that can decompress the rest of the bootblock. This is done by creating a new "decompressor" stage which runs before the bootblock, but includes the compressed bootblock code in its data section. It needs to be as small as possible to get a real benefit from this approach, which means no device drivers, no console output, no exception handling, etc. Besides the decompression algorithm itself we only include the timer driver so that we can measure the boot speed impact of decompression. On ARM and ARM64 systems, we also need to give SoC code a chance to initialize the MMU, since running decompression without MMU is prohibitively slow on these architectures. This feature is implemented for ARM and ARM64 architectures for now, although most of it is architecture-independent and it should be relatively simple to port to other platforms where a masked ROM loads the bootblock into SRAM. It is also supposed to be a clean starting point from which later optimizations can hopefully cut down the decompression stub size (currently ~4K on RK3399) a bit more. NOTE: Bootblock compression is not for everyone. Possible side effects include trying to run LZ4 on CPUs that come out of reset extremely underclocked or enabling this too early in SoC bring-up and getting frustrated trying to find issues in an undebuggable environment. Ask your SoC vendor if bootblock compression is right for you. 2017-06-13Consolidate reset API, add generic reset_prepare mechanismJulius Werner
There are many good reasons why we may want to run some sort of generic callback before we're executing a reset. Unfortunateley, that is really hard right now: code that wants to reset simply calls the hard_reset() function (or one of its ill-differentiated cousins) which is directly implemented by a myriad of different mainboards, northbridges, SoCs, etc. More recent x86 SoCs have tried to solve the problem in their own little corner of soc/intel/common, but it's really something that would benefit all of coreboot. This patch expands the concept onto all boards: hard_reset() and friends get implemented in a generic location where they can run hooks before calling the platform-specific implementation that is now called do_hard_reset(). The existing Intel reset_prepare() gets generalized as soc_reset_prepare() (and other hooks for arch, mainboard, etc. can now easily be added later if necessary). We will also use this central point to ensure all platforms flush their cache before reset, which is generally useful for all cases where we're trying to persist information in RAM across reboots (like the new persistent CBMEM console does). Also remove cpu_reset() completely since it's not used anywhere and doesn't seem very useful compared to the others. In builds without CONFIG_VBOOT_SEPARATE_VERSTAGE, verstage files are linked directly into the bootblock or the romstage. However, they're still compiled with a separate "libverstage" source file class, linked into an intermediate library and then linked into the final destination stage. There is no obvious benefit to doing it this way and it's unclear why it was chosen in the first place... there are, however, obvious disadvantages: it can result in code that is used by both libverstage and the host stage to occur twice in the output binary. It also means that libverstage files have their separate compiler flags that are not necessarily aligned with the host stage, which can lead to weird effects like <rules.h> macros not being set the way you would expect. In fact, VBOOT_STARTS_IN_ROMSTAGE configurations are currently broken on x86 because their libverstage code that gets compiled into the romstage sets ENV_VERSTAGE, but CAR migration code expects all ENV_VERSTAGE code to run pre-migration. This patch resolves these problems by removing the separate library. There is no more difference between the 'verstage' and 'libverstage' classes, and the source files added to them are just treated the same way a bootblock or romstage source files in configurations where the verstage is linked into either of these respective stages (allowing for the normal object code deduplication and causing those files to be compiled with the same flags as the host stage's files). Tested this whole series by booting a Kevin, an Elm (both with and without SEPARATE_VERSTAGE) and a Falco in normal and recovery mode. The rule to make spd.bin that's in src/lib is for the 'generic_spd_bin' implementation. It wasn't guarded though, so it was generating a build warning for any other platform that generated an spd.bin file. 2017-01-12google/chromeos: disable platform hierarchy on resume for TPM2Aaron Durbin
On Chrome OS devices that use TPM2 parts the platform hierarchy is disabled by the boot loader, depthcharge. Since the bootloader isn't involved in resuming a suspended machine there's no equivalent action in coreboot to disable the platform hierarchy. Therefore, to ensure consistent state in resume the platform hierarchy in the TPM2 needs to be disabled as well. Implement postcar stage cbmem console support. The postcar stage is more like ramstage in that RAM is already up. Therefore, in order to make the cbmem console reinit flow work one needs the cbmem init hook infrastructure in place and the cbmem recovery called. This call is added to x86/postcar.c to achieve that. Additionally, one needs to provide postcar stage cbmem init hook callbacks for the cbmem console library to use. A few other places need to become postcar stage aware so that the code paths are taken. Lastly, since postcar is backed by ram indicate that to the cbmem backing store. TPM commands need to be serialized (marshaled) to be sent to the device, and the responses need to be de-serialized (unmarshaled) to be properly interpreted by upper layers. This layer does not exist in TPM1.2 coreboot implementation, all TPM commands used there were hardcoded as binary arrays. This is the first approximation of implementing TPM2 support in coreboot. It is very clearly incomplete, some of the larger missing pieces being: - PCR(s) modification - protection NVRAM spaces from unauthorized deletion/modification. - resume handling - cr50 specific factory initialization The existing TPM1.2 firmware API is being implemented for TPM2. Some functions are not required at all, some do not map fully, but the API is not yet being changed, many functions are just stubs. An addition to the API is the new tlcl_define_space() function. It abstracts TMP internals allowing the caller to specify the privilege level of the space to be defined. Two privilege levels are defined, higher for the RO firmware and lower for RW firmware, they determine who can write into the spaces.
