2024-01-29device/device.h: Drop multiple linksArthur Heymans
Multiple links are unused throughout the tree and make the code more confusing as an iteration over all busses is needed to get downstream devices. This also not done consistently e.g. the allocator does not care about multiple links on busses. A better way of dealing multiple links below a device is to feature dummy devices with each their respective bus. This drops the sconfig capability to declare the same device multiple times which was previously used to declare multiple links. 2024-01-16device: Add support for multiple PCI segment groupsFelix Held
Add initial support for multiple PCI segment groups. Instead of modifying secondary in the bus struct introduce a new segment_group struct element and keep existing common code. Since all platforms currently only use 1 segment this is not a functional change. On platforms that support more than 1 segment the segment has to be set when creating the PCI domain. 2023-12-22x86: Separate CPU and SoC physical address sizeJeremy Compostella
The physical address size of the System-on-Chip (SoC) can be different from the CPU physical address size. These two different physical address sizes should be used for settings of their respective field. For instance, the physical address size related to the CPU should be used for MTRR programming while the physical address size of the SoC should be used for MMIO resource allocation. Typically, on Meteor Lake, the CPUs physical address size is 46 if TME is disabled and 42 if TME is enabled but Meteor Lake SoC physical address size is always 42. As a result, MTRRs should reflect the TME status while coreboot MMIO resource allocator should always use 42 bits. This commit introduces `SOC_PHYSICAL_ADDRESS_WIDTH' Kconfig to set the physical address size of the SoC for those SoCs. 2023-06-01device/pci: Limit default domain memory windowNico Huber
When the default pci_domain_read_resources() is used, keep 32-bit memory resources below the limit given by CONFIG_DOMAIN_RESOURCE_32BIT_LIMIT. This serves as a workaround for missing/wrong reservations of chipset resources. This will help to get more stable results from our own allocator, but is far from a complete solution. Indvi- dual platform ASL code also needs to be considered, so the OS won't assign conflicting resources. Most platforms have reserved space between 0xfe000000 and the 4G barrier. So use that as a global default. In case of `soc/intel/common/`, use 0xe0000000 because this is what is advertised in ACPI and there are traces of resources below 0xfe000000 that are unknown to core- boot's C code (PCH_PRESERVED_BASE?). Tested on QEMU/Q35 and Siemens/Chili w/ and w/o top- down allocation. Fixes EHCI w/ top-down in QEMU. By default this limits PCI buses to CONFIG_MMCONF_BUS_NUMBER. Some platforms have multiple PCI root busses (e.g. xeon_sp), where bus numbers are limited. This provides a basic check. On some platforms it looks like programming 0xff to the subordinate bus number confuses and hangs the hardware. The function pci_scan_bus had 3 post codes in it: 0x24 - beginning 0x25 - middle 0x55 - end I got rid of the middle postcode and used 0x25 for the code signifying the end of the function. I don't think all three are needed. 0x24 & 0x25 postcodes are currently also used in intel cache-as-ram code. Those postcodes should be adjusted to avoid conflicting. PCI bus 0 is not below any PCI device. In case of pci_domain_scan_bus(), it's our virtual `domain` device. Expecting a PCI device above bus 0 resulted in undefined behavior for all boards with PCI. Only boards with a PCI device 00:00.0 that looked like a PCIe bridge showed issues, though (e.g. OCP/DeltaLake). 2022-02-16device: Add support for PCIe Resizable BARsTim Wawrzynczak
Section 7.8.6 of the PCIe spec (rev 4) indicates that some devices can indicates support for "Resizable BARs" via a PCIe extended capability. When support this capability is indicated by the device, the size of each BAR is determined in a different way than the normal "moving bits" method. Instead, a pair of capability and control registers is allocated in config space for each BAR, which can be used to both indicate the different sizes the device is capable of supporting for the BAR (powers-of-2 number of bits from 20 [1 MiB] to 63 [8 EiB]), and to also inform the device of the size that the allocator actually reserved for the MMIO range. This patch adds a Kconfig for a mainboard to select if it knows that it will have a device that requires this support during PCI enumeration. If so, there is a corresponding Kconfig to indicate the maximum number of bits of address space to hand out to devices this way (again, limited by what devices can support and each individual system may want to support, but just like above, this number can range from 20 to 63) If the device can support more bits than this Kconfig, the resource request is truncated to the number indicated by this Kconfig. Now that the console system itself will clearly differentiate loglevels, it is no longer necessary to explicitly add "ERROR: " in front of every BIOS_ERR message to help it stand out more (and allow automated tooling to grep for it). Removing all these extra .rodata characters should save us a nice little amount of binary size. This patch was created by running find src/ -type f -exec perl -0777 -pi -e 's/printk\(\s*BIOS_ERR,\s*"ERROR: /printk\(BIOS_ERR, "/gi' '{}' ';' and doing some cursory review/cleanup on the result. 2021-02-06soc/intel/broadwell: Conditionally skip PRE_GRAPHICS_DELAYKyösti Mälkki
It was commented that the need for the delay was mainly related to external displays and only with VBIOS execution. Move the delay such that it is done only when we actually need to execute the VBIOS aka option rom. A delay is currently only defined for librem/purism_bdw in its Kconfig. As the description of the issue sounds like it would equally happen on other platforms when VBIOS is involved, promote the Kconfig visible option to global scope. Add a NULL check and only skip setting the default operations if `.ops` was set by a driver. It's fairly unlikely that some- body adds a driver and forgets the `.ops` pointer. So this is mostly to increase readability: Nobody should have to wonder if we're missing a NULL-check. The condition is moved out of the loop to reduce indentation levels. Alternatively, we could jusk skip drivers that don't have `.ops` set (i.e. continue the loop). 2020-10-21device: Allow virtual/generic devices under PCI in devicetreeDuncan Laurie
This change allows a generic device to be described in the devicetree under a PCI device, such as a root port. Previously any device under a PCI device was expected to also be a PCI device and that does not allow for a virtual/generic device to be present, for example to provide ACPI properties for a root port. The changes are: - Ignore non-PCI devices found under a PCI device when scanning and do not print an error for each devfn scanned. - Don't treat non-PCI devices as leftover and remove them, instead enable them as a static device. - Don't attempt to configure a static device in the tree that is not a PCIe device type. With these changes it is now possible to have a generic device under a PCI device, for example in a USB4/TBT root port (PCIe hotplug device) this generic device will add ACPI properties for the PCIe tunnel routed to the external port: device pci 07.0 on chip soc/intel/common/block/pcie device generic 0 on end end end TEST=boot on volteer with the USB4 root port devices in chipset.cb and ensure they are enabled properly and there are no errors printed in the coreboot log, and that the device properties are created in the SSDT. 2020-05-20device/pci_device: Add notion of "hidden" PCI devicesTim Wawrzynczak
On some SoCs, there are PCI devices that may get hidden from PCI enumeration by platform firmware. Because the Vendor ID reads back as 0xffffffff, it appears that there is no PCI device located at that BDF. However, because the device does exist, designers may wish to hang its PCI resources off of a real __pci_driver, as well as have it participate in ACPI table generation. This patch extends the semantics of the 'hidden' keyword in devicetree.cb. If a device now uses 'hidden' instead of 'on', then it will be assumed during PCI enumeration that the device indeed does exist, and it will not be removed as a "leftover device." This allows child devices to be enumerated correctly and also PCI resources can be designated from the {read,set}_resources callbacks. It should be noted that as of this commit, there are precisely 0 devices using 'hidden' in their devicetree.cb files, so this should be a safe thing to do. Later patches will begin moving PCI resources from random places (typically hung off of fixed SA and LPC) into the PMC device (procedure will vary per- platform). This CL has changes that allow us to enable a configurable ramstage, and one change that allows us to minimize PCI scanning. Minimal scanning is a frequently requested feature. To enable it, we add two new variables to src/Kconfig CONFIGURABLE_RAMSTAGE is the overall variable controlling other options for minimizing the ramstage. MINIMAL_PCI_SCANNING is how we indicate we wish to enable minimal PCI scanning. Some devices must be scanned in all cases, such as 0:0.0. To indicate which devices we must scan, we add a new mandatory keyword to sconfig It is used in place of on, off, or hidden, and indicates a device is enabled and mandatory. Mandatory devices are always scanned. When MINIMAL_PCI_SCANNING is enabled, ONLY mandatory devices are scanned. We further add support in src/device/pci_device.c to manage both MINIMAL_PCI_SCANNING and mandatory devices. Finally, to show how this works in practice, we add mandatory keywords to 3 devices on the qemu-q35. TEST= 1. This is tested and working on the qemu-q35 target. 2. 2020-02-05pciexp: Add support for allocating PCI express hotplug resourcesJeremy Soller
This change adds support for allocating resources for PCI express hotplug bridges when PCIEXP_HOTPLUG is selected. By default, this will add 32 PCI subordinate numbers (buses), 256 MiB of prefetchable memory, 8 MiB of non-prefetchable memory, and 8 KiB of I/O space to any device with the PCI_EXP_SLTCAP_HPC bit set in the PCI_EXP_SLTCAP register, which indicates hot-plugging capability. The resource allocation is configurable, please see the PCIEXP_HOTPLUG_* variables in src/device/Kconfig. In order to support the allocation of hotplugged PCI buses, a new field is added to struct device called hotplug_buses. This is defaulted to zero, but when set, it adds the hotplug_buses value to the subordinate value of the PCI bridge. This allows devices to be plugged in and unplugged after boot. This code was tested on the System76 Darter Pro (darp6). Before this change, there are not enough resources allocated to the Thunderbolt PCI bridge to allow plugging in new devices after boot. This can be worked around in the Linux kernel by passing a boot param such as: pci=assign-busses,hpbussize=32,realloc This change makes it possible to use Thunderbolt hotplugging without kernel parameters, and attempts to match closely what our motherboard manufacturer's firmware does by default. 2019-10-06device/pci: Enable full 16-bit VGA port i/o decodingNico Huber
So, the PCI to PCI bridge specification had a pitfall for us: Originally, when decoding i/o ports for legacy VGA cycles, bridges should only consider the 10 least significant bits of the port address. This means all VGA registers were aliased every 1024 ports! e.g. 0x3b0 was also decoded as 0x7b0, 0xbb0 etc. However, it seems, we never reserved the aliased ports, resulting in silent conflicts we preallocated resources. We neither use much external VGA nor many i/o ports these days, so nobody noticed. To avoid this mess, a bridge control bit (VGA16) was introduced in 2003 to enable decoding of 16-bit port addresses. As older systems seem rather safe and well tested, and newer systems should support this bit, we'll use it if possible and only warn if not. 2019-09-15lib/coreboot_table: Show splashscreen in lb_table_initJohanna Schander
Every vga init implementation needs to cache the framebuffer state to be able to fill the lb_framebuffer struct later on in the fill_lb_framebuffer call. Showing the bootsplash afterwards guarantees to have the same interface into all the vga drivers. This is by far from ideal, as it only allows for a single driver at compile-time and should be adapted in the future. It was tested on the wip razer blade stealth using vgabios @ 1280x1024 and also in Qemu @ 1280x1024. By default the qemu framebuffer will be initialized in 800x600@32. This can be overwriten by configuration by setting CONFIG_DRIVERS_EMULATION_QEMU_BOCHS_{X,Y}RES . 2019-07-26src/device/oprom: Fix bootsplash display code for optionromsJohanna Schander
So far the bootsplash is only correctly rendered if the framebuffer is set up as 1024x768@16. Different resolutions did not show anything, differnent depth resulted in the distorted images. This commit removes this limit by using the actual framebuffer resolutions and combines the code for x86 and yabel. For the moment the bootsplash is still limited to VGA-OptionROM framebuffer init. It was tested in 1280x1024@32 on the wip razer blade stealth using the intel vgabios. As of CL:1605641, vboot2 code should be used for setting and checking display init state. Remove all vboot1 OPROM-related code, and use the vboot2 display init code which has already been added in previous commits. coreboot should not be reading vboot NVRAM flags directly. Remove the function vboot_wants_oprom(), and instead rely on display_init_required(), which uses the VBOOT_WD_FLAG_DISPLAY_INIT value stored in vboot_working_data.flags, initialized during verstage. Note that this means in the case of CONFIG_VBOOT=y, the return value of display_init_required() can only be trusted after verstage has been executed. This should not be a problem assuming that all display initialization occurs in ramstage. Skipping display init on normal-mode boot is a vboot feature, not specific to Chrome OS. Fix the code in display_init_required() and pci_dev_init() to check CONFIG_VBOOT rather than CONFIG_CHROMEOS now that the two aren't always the same anymore. Also add a check to guarantee at compile time that CONFIG_VBOOT_OPROM_MATTERS is enabled on all platforms that make a check to this function (when CONFIG_VBOOT is also enabled). The whole display skipping mechanism is based on the oprom_needed NVRAM flag, and skipping display init without enabling the option to tell vboot that it needs to pay attention to that flag would make the whole thing not work right. Write _ROM method and store PCI Option ROM in CBMEM. Allows an EFI compatible OS to retrieve the Option ROM without the need to access the PCI BAR. As the Option ROM is no longer present in the legacy VGA area it's required for mobile platforms. On hybrid devices, like Lenovo Thinkpads supporting NVIDIA Optimus it's the only way to retrieve the Option ROM, even with legacy BIOS, as there's no PCI BAR to map. 2015-10-25device/pci_device: Set bridge primary bus number before scanningTimothy Pearson
Certain devices, such as the Intel 82575GB, contain multiple nested PCIe bridges (for example the PES12N3A). Coreboot does not set the primary bus number of the lower bridges, causing upstream forwarding failure. This in turn causes coreboot to fail to find the lowest devices (in this case the NICs), and as a result the required resources are not allocated and the NICs do not function. 2015-10-22allocator: Page align memory mapped PCI resourcesNico Huber
To help hypervisors to assign PCI devices individually to virtualization guests, page align dynamically allocated MMIO resources. Tested with kontron/ktqm77 which has dynamically configured onboard devices on the root bus and secondary buses. Booted Linux and checked the configuration with `lspci -v`. Got the configuration through Muen's tools which are very picky about overlapping and alignment. Booted a Muen based system that uses many onboard devices. GMA, xHCI and one NIC (on a secondary bus) were verified to function properly.
