2021-04-19cpu/x86/smm_loaderv2: Use the permanent stack top during relocationArthur Heymans
Use the same stack location during relocation as for the permanent handler. When the number of CPUs is too large the stacks during relocation don't fit inside the default SMRAM segment at 0x30000. Currently the code would just let the CPU stack base grow downwards outside of the default SMM segment which would corrupt lower memory if S3 is implemented. Also update the comment on smm_module_setup_stub(). Global variables are located in .bss and not on the CPU stack. Overwriting them a per CPU case is bound to cause race conditions. In this case it is even just plainly wrong. The permanent handler module argument 'save_state_size' now holds the meaning of the real save state size which is then substracted from the CPUs save state 'top' to get the save state base. TESTED with qemu Q35 on x86_64 where the stub size exceeds the AMD64 save state size. 2020-08-15cpu/x86/smm: Introduce SMM module loader version 2Rocky Phagura
Xeon-SP Skylake Scalable Processor can have 36 CPU threads (18 cores). Current coreboot SMM is unable to handle more than ~32 CPU threads. This patch introduces a version 2 of the SMM module loader which addresses this problem. Having two versions of the SMM module loader prevents any issues to current projects. Future Xeon-SP products will be using this version of the SMM loader. Subsequent patches will enable board specific functionality for Xeon-SP. The reason for moving to version 2 is the state save area begins to encroach upon the SMI handling code when more than 32 CPU threads are in the system. This can cause system hangs, reboots, etc. The second change is related to staggered entry points with simple near jumps. In the current loader, near jumps will not work because the CPU is jumping within the same code segment. In version 2, "far" address jumps are necessary therefore protected mode must be enabled first. The SMM layout and how the CPUs are staggered are documented in the code. By making the modifications above, this allows the smm module loader to expand easily as more CPU threads are added. TEST=build for Tiogapass platform under OCP mainboard. Enable the following in Kconfig. select CPU_INTEL_COMMON_SMM select SOC_INTEL_COMMON_BLOCK_SMM select SMM_TSEG select HAVE_SMI_HANDLER select ACPI_INTEL_HARDWARE_SLEEP_VALUES Debug console will show all 36 cores relocated. Further tested by generating SMI's to port 0xb2 using XDP/ITP HW debugger and ensured all cores entering and exiting SMM properly. In addition, booted to Linux 5.4 kernel and observed no issues during mp init. 2020-02-05security/intel/stm: Add STM supportEugene Myers
This update is a combination of all four of the patches so that the commit can be done without breaking parts of coreboot. This possible breakage is because of the cross-dependencies between the original separate patches would cause failure because of data structure changes. security/intel/stm This directory contains the functions that check and move the STM to the MSEG, create its page tables, and create the BIOS resource list. The STM page tables is a six page region located in the MSEG and are pointed to by the CR3 Offset field in the MSEG header. The initial page tables will identity map all memory between 0-4G. The STM starts in IA32e mode, which requires page tables to exist at startup. The BIOS resource list defines the resources that the SMI Handler is allowed to access. This includes the SMM memory area where the SMI handler resides and other resources such as I/O devices. The STM uses the BIOS resource list to restrict the SMI handler's accesses. The BIOS resource list is currently located in the same area as the SMI handler. This location is shown in the comment section before smm_load_module in smm_module_loader.c Note: The files within security/intel/stm come directly from their Tianocore counterparts. Unnecessary code has been removed and the remaining code has been converted to meet coreboot coding requirements. 2020-02-04cpu/x86: Make MP init timeout configurableJonathan Zhang
The current MP init timeout is hardcoded as 1s. To support platform with many cpus, the timeout needs to be adjusted. The number of cpus is calculated as: number of sockets * number of cores per socket * number of threads per core How long the timeout should be set to, is heuristic. It needs to be set long enough to ensure reboot stability, but not unreasonable so that real failures can be detected soon enough, especially for smaller systems. This patch sets timeout to be minimum as 1 second, while each cpu adds 0.1 second. 2019-08-15soc/*: mp_run_on_all_cpus: Remove configurable timeoutPatrick Rudolph
Some timeouts given were too small when serial console is enabled due to its spinlock making code runtime worse with every AP present. In addition we usually don't know how long specific code runs and how long ago it was sent to the APs. Remove the timeout argument from mp_run_on_all_cpus and instead wait up to 1 second, to prevent possible crashing of secondary APs still processing the old job. Tested on Supermicro X11SSH-TF. In order to extend the MP callback infrastructure prepare for easier changes by making the AP callback get signalled by a single pointer to a local variable on the signaller's stack. When the APs see the callback they will copy the structure to a local variable and then set the acknowledgement by clearing out the slot. The reading and writing to the slots were implemented using inline assembly which forces a memory access and a compiler barrier. Change f43adf0 (intel/common/block/cpu: Change post_cpus_init after BS_DEV RESOURCES) moved post_cpus_init to BS_OS_RESUME for S3 path. This results in BSP timing out waiting for APs to be parked. This change increases the time out value for APs to be parked to 250ms. This value was chosen after running suspend-resume stress test and capturing the maximum time taken for APs to be parked for 100 iterations. Typical values observed were ~150ms. Currently, the AP check-in time-out in bsp_do_flight_plan is set to 100ms. However, as the number of APs increases, contention could increase especially for resource like UART. This led to MP record time-out issues on KBL platform with 7 APs and serial-console enabled BIOS image. This change increases the time-out value to 1 second to be on the safer side and let APs check-in before continuing boot. 2018-02-16x86/mtrr: Enable Rd/WrDram mod in AMD fixed MTRRsMarshall Dawson
AMD's fixed MTRRs have RdDram and WrDram bits that route memory accesses to DRAM vs. MMIO. These are typically hidden for normal operation by clearing SYS_CFG[19] (MtrrFixDramModEn). According to BKDGs and AMD64 Programmer's Manual vol 2, this bit is clear at reset, should be set for configuration during POST, then cleared for normal operation. Attempting to modify the RdDram and WrDram settings without unhiding them causes a General Protection Fault. Add functions to enable and disable MtrrFixDramModEn. Unhide/hide as necessary when copying or writing the fixed MTRRs. Finally, modify sipi_vector.S to enable the bits prior to writing the fixed MTRRs and disable when complete. This functionality is compiled out on non-AMD platforms. 2017-09-11cpu/x86/mp_init: remove adjust_cpu_apic_entry()Aaron Durbin
The original purpose of adjust_cpu_apic_entry() was to set up an APIC map. That map was effectively only used for mapping *default* APIC id to CPU number in the SMM handler. The normal AP startup path didn't need this mapping because it was whoever won the race got the next cpu number. Instead of statically calculating (and wrong) just initialize the default APIC id map when the APs come online. Once the APs are online the SMM handler is loaded and the mapping is utilized. There are circumstances where the APs need to run a piece of code later in the boot flow. The current MP init just parks the APs after MP init is completed so there's not an opportunity to target running a piece of code on all the APs at a later time. 2016-05-04cpu/x86: combine multiprocessor and SMM initializationAaron Durbin
In order to reduce code duplication provide a common flow through callback functions that performs the multiprocessor and optionally SMM initialization. The existing MP flight records are utilized but a common flow is provided such that the chipset/cpu only needs to provide a mp_ops structure which has callbacks to gather info and provide hooks at certain points in the sequence. All current users of the MP code can be switched over to this flow since there haven't been any flight records that are overly complicated and long. After the conversion has taken place most of the surface area of the MP API can be hidden away within the compilation unit proper. 2015-04-06New mechanism to define SRAM/memory map with automatic bounds checkingJulius Werner
This patch creates a new mechanism to define the static memory layout (primarily in SRAM) for a given board, superseding the brittle mass of Kconfigs that we were using before. The core part is a memlayout.ld file in the mainboard directory (although boards are expected to just include the SoC default in most cases), which is the primary linker script for all stages (though not rmodules for now). It uses preprocessor macros from <memlayout.h> to form a different valid linker script for all stages while looking like a declarative, boilerplate-free map of memory addresses to the programmer. Linker asserts will automatically guarantee that the defined regions cannot overlap. Stages are defined with a maximum size that will be enforced by the linker. The file serves to both define and document the memory layout, so that the documentation cannot go missing or out of date. The mechanism is implemented for all boards in the ARM, ARM64 and MIPS architectures, and should be extended onto all systems using SRAM in the future. The CAR/XIP environment on x86 has very different requirements and the layout is generally not as static, so it will stay like it is and be unaffected by this patch (save for aligning some symbol names for consistency and sharing the new common ramstage linker script include). Compiled Ryu, Storm and Urara, manually compared the disassemblies with ToT and looked for red flags. Provide a common entry point for bringing up the APs in parallel. This work is based off of the Haswell one which can be moved over to this in the future. The APs are brought up and have the BSP's MTRRs duplicated in their own MTRRs. Additionally, Microcode is loaded before enabling caching. However, the current microcode loading support assumes Intel's mechanism. The infrastructure provides a notion of a flight plan for the BSP and APs. This allows for flexibility in the order of operations for a given architecture/chip without providing any specific policy. Therefore, the chipset caller can provide the order that is required.
