2021-09-29arch/x86,cpu/x86: Disable the %gs and %fs segmentsRaul E Rangel
The %fs and %gs segment are typically used to implement thread local storage or cpu local storage. We don't currently use these in coreboot, so there is no reason to map them. By setting the segment index to 0, it disables the segment. If an instruction tries to read from one of these segments an exception will be raised. The end goal is to make cpu_info() use the %gs segment. This will remove the stack alignment requirements and fix smm_do_relocation. 2021-06-15treewide: Disable R_AMD64_32S relocation supportPatrick Rudolph
This fixes a hard to debug hang that could occur in any stage, but in the end it follows simple rules and is easy to fix. In long mode the 32bit displacement addressing used on 'mov' and 'lea' instructions is sign-extended. Those instructions can be found using readelf on the stage and searching for relocation type R_X86_64_32S. The sign extension is no issue when either running in protected mode or the code module and thus the address is below 2GiB. If the address is greater than 2GiB, as usually the case for code in TSEG, the higher address bits [64:32] are all set to 1 and the effective address is pointing to memory not paged. Accessing this memory will cause a page fault, which isn't handled either. To prevent such problems - disable R_AMD64_32S relocations in rmodtool - add comment explaining why it's not allowed - use the pseudo op movabs, which doesn't use 32bit displacement addressing - Print a useful error message if such a reloc is present in the code Fixes a crash in TSEG and when in long mode seen on Intel Sandybridge. Allows compile-time optimisation on platforms that do not wish to enable runtime checking of X2APIC. Legacy lapic_cpu_init() is incompatible so there is dependency on PARALLEL_MP. Also stop_this_cpu() is incompatible, so there is dependency on !AP_IN_SIPI_WAIT. Since the code actually lacks enablement of X2APIC (apparently assuming the blob has done it) and the other small flaws pointed out in earlier reviews, X2APIC_RUNTIME is not selected per default on any platform yet. 2020-05-02acpi: Move ACPI table support out of arch/x86 (3/5)Furquan Shaikh
This change moves all ACPI table support in coreboot currently living under arch/x86 into common code to make it architecture independent. ACPI table generation is not really tied to any architecture and hence it makes sense to move this to its own directory. In order to make it easier to review, this change is being split into multiple CLs. This is change 3/5 which basically is generated by running the following command: $ git grep -iIl "arch/acpi" | xargs sed -i 's/arch\/acpi/acpi\/acpi/g' BUG=b:155428745 Change-Id: I16b1c45d954d6440fb9db1d3710063a47b582eae Signed-off-by: Furquan Shaikh <furquan@google.com> Reviewed-on: https://review.coreboot.org/c/coreboot/+/40938 Tested-by: build bot (Jenkins) <no-reply@coreboot.org> Reviewed-by: HAOUAS Elyes <ehaouas@noos.fr>

2016-03-23arch/x86: introduce postcar stage/phaseAaron Durbin
Certain chipsets don't have a memory-mapped boot media so their code execution for stages prior to DRAM initialization is backed by SRAM or cache-as-ram. The postcar stage/phase handles the cache-as-ram situation where in order to tear down cache-as-ram one needs to be executing out of a backing store that isn't transient. By current definition, cache-as-ram is volatile and tearing it down leads to its contents disappearing. Therefore provide a shim layer, postcar, that's loaded into memory and executed which does 2 things: 1. Tears down cache-as-ram with a chipset helper function. 2. Loads and runs ramstage. Because those 2 things are executed out of ram there's no issue of the code's backing store while executing the code that tears down cache-as-ram. The current implementation makes no assumption regarding cacheability of the DRAM itself. If the chipset code wishes to cache DRAM for loading of the postcar stage/phase then it's also up to the chipset to handle any coherency issues pertaining to cache-as-ram destruction. 2015-12-02x86/smm: Initialize SMM on some CPUs one-by-oneDamien Zammit
We currently race in SMM init on Atom 230 (and potentially other CPUs). At least on the 230, this leads to a hang on RSM, likely because both hyperthreads mess around with SMBASE and other SMM state variables in parallel without coordination. The same behaviour occurs with Atom D5xx. Change it so first APs are spun up and sent to sleep, then BSP initializes SMM, then every CPU, one after another. Only do this when SERIALIZE_SMM_INITIALIZATION is set. Set the flag for Atom CPUs. 2015-10-14x86: add standalone verstage supportAaron Durbin
To support x86 verstage one needs a working buffer for vboot. That buffer resides in the cache-as-ram region which persists across verstage and romstage. The current assumption is that verstage brings cache-as-ram up and romstage tears cache-as-ram down. The timestamp, cbmem console, and the vboot work buffer are persistent through in both romstage and verstage. The vboot work buffer as well as the cbmem console are permanently destroyed once cache-as-ram is torn down. The timestamp region is migrated. When verstage is enabled the assumption is that _start is the romstage entry point. It's currently expected that the chipset provides the entry point to romstage when verstage is employed. Also, the car_var_*() APIs use direct access when in verstage since its expected verstage does not tear down cache-as-ram. Lastly, supporting files were added to verstage-y such that an x86 verstage will build and link. BUG=chrome-os-partner:44827 BRANCH=None TEST=Built and booted glados using separate verstage. 2015-07-06Revert "sandy/ivybridge: use LAPIC timer in SMM"Patrick Georgi
This reverts commit a3aa8da2acec28670b724b7897ae054592746674. Chrome OS builds require the monotonic timer API in SMM for ELOG_GSMI, but sandy/ivy doesn't provide it. The commit tried to work around that by using generic LAPIC code instead, but this leads to multiple definition errors in other configurations (and it may be unreliable once the OS reconfigured the APIC timers anyhow). This fixes the situation for the non-ELOG_GSMI case (which is more or less everybody but Chrome OS). ELOG_GSMI requires a separate fix. 2015-05-21Remove address from GPLv2 headersPatrick Georgi
As per discussion with lawyers[tm], it's not a good idea to shorten the license header too much - not for legal reasons but because there are tools that look for them, and giving them a standard pattern simplifies things. However, we got confirmation that we don't have to update every file ever added to coreboot whenever the FSF gets a new lease, but can drop the address instead. util/kconfig is excluded because that's imported code that we may want to synchronize every now and then. $ find * -type f -exec sed -i "s:Foundation, Inc., 51 Franklin St, Fifth Floor, Boston, *MA[, ]*02110-1301[, ]*USA:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + $ find * -type f -exec sed -i "s:Foundation, Inc., 51 Franklin Street, Suite 500, Boston, MA 02110-1335, USA:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + $ find * -type f -exec sed -i "s:Foundation, Inc., 59 Temple Place[-, ]*Suite 330, Boston, MA *02111-1307[, ]*USA:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + $ find * -type f -exec sed -i "s:Foundation, Inc., 675 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA.:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + $ find * -type f -a \! -name \*.patch \ -a \! -name \*_shipped \ -a \! -name LICENSE_GPL \ -a \! -name LGPL.txt \ -a \! -name COPYING \ -a \! -name DISCLAIMER \ -exec sed -i "/Foundation, Inc./ N;s:Foundation, Inc.* USA\.* *:Foundation, Inc. :;s:Foundation, Inc. $:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + Change-Id: Icc968a5a5f3a5df8d32b940f9cdb35350654bef9 Signed-off-by: Patrick Georgi <pgeorgi@chromium.org> Reviewed-on: http://review.coreboot.org/9233 Tested-by: build bot (Jenkins) Reviewed-by: Vladimir Serbinenko <phcoder@gmail.com>
2015-04-06New mechanism to define SRAM/memory map with automatic bounds checkingJulius Werner
This patch creates a new mechanism to define the static memory layout (primarily in SRAM) for a given board, superseding the brittle mass of Kconfigs that we were using before. The core part is a memlayout.ld file in the mainboard directory (although boards are expected to just include the SoC default in most cases), which is the primary linker script for all stages (though not rmodules for now). It uses preprocessor macros from <memlayout.h> to form a different valid linker script for all stages while looking like a declarative, boilerplate-free map of memory addresses to the programmer. Linker asserts will automatically guarantee that the defined regions cannot overlap. Stages are defined with a maximum size that will be enforced by the linker. The file serves to both define and document the memory layout, so that the documentation cannot go missing or out of date. The mechanism is implemented for all boards in the ARM, ARM64 and MIPS architectures, and should be extended onto all systems using SRAM in the future. The CAR/XIP environment on x86 has very different requirements and the layout is generally not as static, so it will stay like it is and be unaffected by this patch (save for aligning some symbol names for consistency and sharing the new common ramstage linker script include). BUG=None TEST=Booted normally and in recovery mode, checked suspend/resume and the CBMEM console on Falco, Blaze (both normal and vboot2), Pinky and Pit. Compiled Ryu, Storm and Urara, manually compared the disassemblies with ToT and looked for red flags.
