2022-02-07console: Add compile-time fast path when only CBMEM console is usedJulius Werner
A common use case when running coreboot on production systems is that only the CBMEM console (the one with the least impact on boot speed) is enabled. In this case, some of the code in the console subsystem has no effect. Due to the way it's all genericized over multiple consoles and tied together with function pointers, not all of this can be compile-time eliminated automatically, so this patch adds a little helper to facilitate that. This results in roughly 200 (compressed) bytes of savings per stage on an arm64 system. 2022-02-07console: Add loglevel prefix to interactive consolesJulius Werner
In an attempt to make loglevels more visible (and therefore useful, hopefully), this patch adds a prefix indicating the log level to every line sent to an "interactive" console (such as a UART). If the code contains a `printk(BIOS_DEBUG, "This is a debug message!\n"), it will now show up as [DEBUG] This is a debug message! on the UART output. "Stored" consoles (such as in CBMEM) will get a similar but more space-efficient feature in a later CL. 2020-09-07ec/system76: Add console supportJeremy Soller
This adds support for line-buffered console output to System76 EC firmware. Once the print command is received, the EC firmware multiplexes the output to any enabled console on the EC. This can be a memory ringbuffer, a parallel port (using the keyboard connector), or i2c (using the battery connector). Once the entire buffer is sent, it sets the command register to 0, indicating completion. 2017-06-04console/flashsconsole: Add spi flash console for debuggingYouness Alaoui
If CONSOLE_SPI_FLASH config is enabled, we write the cbmem messages to the 'CONSOLE' area in FMAP which allows us to grab the log when we read the flash. This is useful when you don't have usb debugging, and UART lines are hard to find. Since a failure to boot would require a hardware flasher anyways, we can get the log at the same time. This feature should only be used when no alternative is found and only when we can't boot the system, because excessive writes to the flash is not recommended. This has been tested on purism/librem13 v2 and librem 15 v3 which run Intel Skylake hardware. It has not been tested on other archs or with a driver other than the fast_spi. 2015-10-05Add EM100 'hyper term' spi console support in ramstage & smmMartin Roth
The EM100Pro allows the debug console to be sent over the SPI bus. This is not yet working in romstage due to the use of static variables in the SPI driver code. It is also not working on chipsets that have SPI write buffers of less than 10 characters due to the 9 byte command/header length specified by the EM100 protocol. While this currently works only with the EM100, it seems like it would be useful on any logic analyzer with SPI debug - just filter on command bytes of 0x11. 2015-05-21Remove address from GPLv2 headersPatrick Georgi
As per discussion with lawyers[tm], it's not a good idea to shorten the license header too much - not for legal reasons but because there are tools that look for them, and giving them a standard pattern simplifies things. However, we got confirmation that we don't have to update every file ever added to coreboot whenever the FSF gets a new lease, but can drop the address instead. util/kconfig is excluded because that's imported code that we may want to synchronize every now and then. $ find * -type f -exec sed -i "s:Foundation, Inc., 51 Franklin St, Fifth Floor, Boston, *MA[, ]*02110-1301[, ]*USA:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + $ find * -type f -exec sed -i "s:Foundation, Inc., 51 Franklin Street, Suite 500, Boston, MA 02110-1335, USA:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + $ find * -type f -exec sed -i "s:Foundation, Inc., 59 Temple Place[-, ]*Suite 330, Boston, MA *02111-1307[, ]*USA:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + $ find * -type f -exec sed -i "s:Foundation, Inc., 675 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA.:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + $ find * -type f -a \! -name \*.patch \ -a \! -name \*_shipped \ -a \! -name LICENSE_GPL \ -a \! -name LGPL.txt \ -a \! -name COPYING \ -a \! -name DISCLAIMER \ -exec sed -i "/Foundation, Inc./ N;s:Foundation, Inc.* USA\.* *:Foundation, Inc. :;s:Foundation, Inc. $:Foundation, Inc.:" {} + Change-Id: Icc968a5a5f3a5df8d32b940f9cdb35350654bef9 Signed-off-by: Patrick Georgi <pgeorgi@chromium.org> Reviewed-on: http://review.coreboot.org/9233 Tested-by: build bot (Jenkins) Reviewed-by: Vladimir Serbinenko <phcoder@gmail.com>

It might be that you want an early console in romstage before RAM is up, but you can't or don't want to support the console all the way back in the bootblock. By making the console in those two different environments configurable seperately that becomes possible. On the 5250 console output as early as the bootblock works, but on the 5420 it only starts working in the ROM stage after clocks have been initialized. (Renamed from SERIAL_CONSOLE because other non-serial drivers are named as CONSOLE_XXX like CONSOLE_CBMEM) - CONSOLE_SERIAL_UART: Device-specific UART driver. 2013-01-04make early serial console support more genericDavid Hendricks
This patch makes pre-RAM serial init more generic, particularly for platforms which do not necessarily need cache-as-RAM in order to use the serial console and do not have a standard 8250 serial port. This adds a Kconfig variable to set romstage-* for very early serial console init. The current method assumes that cache-as-RAM should enable this, so to maintain compatibility selecting CACHE_AS_RAM will also select EARLY_SERIAL_CONSOLE. The UART code structure needs some rework, but the use of ROMCC, romstage, and then ramstage makes things complex. uart.h now includes all .h files for all uarts. All 2 of them. This is actually a simplifying change. Change-Id: I089e7af633c227baf3c06c685f005e9d0e4b38ce Signed-off-by: David Hendricks <dhendrix@chromium.org> Signed-off-by: Ronald G. 2009-06-03CMOS: Add set_option and rework get_option.Luc Verhaegen
To ease some of my debugging pain on the unichrome, i decided i needed to move FB size selection into cmos, so i could test a size and then reset it to the default after loading this value so that the next reboot uses the (working) default again. This meant implementing set_option in parallel to get_option. get_option was then found to have inversed argument ordering (like outb) and passing char * and then depending on the cmos layout length, which made me feel quite uncomfortable. Since we either have reserved space (which we shouldn't do anything with in these two functions), an enum or a hexadecimal value, unsigned int seemed like the way to go. So all users of get_option now have their arguments inversed and switched from using ints to unsigned ints now. The way get_cmos_value was implemented forced us to not overlap byte and to have multibyte values be byte aligned. This logic is now adapted to do a full uint32_t read (when needed) at any offset and any length up to 32, and the shifting all happens inside an uint32_t as well. set_cmos_value was implemented similarly. Both routines have been extensively tested in a quick separate little program as it is not easy to get this stuff right. build_opt_tbl.c was altered to function correctly within these new parameters. The enum value retrieval has been changed strol(..., NULL, 10) to stroul(..., NULL, 0), so that we not only are able to use unsigned ints now but so that we also interprete hex values correctly. The 32bit limit gets imposed on all entries not marked reserved, an unused "user_data" field that appeared in a lot of cmos.layouts has been changed to reserved as well.
