2023-05-05vc/google: Decouple DSM_CALIB from CHROMEOSMatt DeVillier
DSM (Dynamic Speaker Management) uses calibration parameters stored in a VPD (Vital Product Data) FMAP region to configure the audio output via an ACPI _DSD table. This has no dependency on a ChromeOS, and can be used by Linux/Windows drivers if appropriately configured. Remove the dependency of DSM_CALIB (and the calibration file) on CHROMEOS and replace it with VPD, so that non-CHROMEOS builds can utilize this feature as well. Move files from underneath vc/google/chromeos to underscore the point. TEST=build/boot google/nightfury, dump ACPI, verify DSM calibraton parameters present in _DSD table. 2023-04-14vc/google/chromeec/acpi: write OIPG in DECLARE_NO_CROS_GPIOS caseFelix Held
When a mainboard selects ACPI_SOC_NVS and CHROMEOS, CHROMEOS_NVS will be selected. This causes vc/google/chromeec/acpi/chromeos.asl to be included in the DSDT and chromeos_acpi_gpio_generate to be called when generating the coreboot SSDT. When a mainboard also uses DECLARE_NO_CROS_GPIOS(), this will cause variant_cros_gpio.count to be 0 and variant_cros_gpio.gpios to be NULL. chromeos_acpi_gpio_generate only checked if the GPIO table was non-NULL, which caused the function to exit early and not generate the OIPG package which causes the kernel to complain about referencing the non-existing OIPG package. To avoid this, only exit in the GPIO table pointer being NULL case if the number of GPIOs is non-0. TEST=Error about missing OIPG ACPI object in dmesg disappears on birman. 2023-01-10chromeos/cr50_enable_update.c: Clear EC AP_IDLE flagDerek Huang
When AP boots up after Cr50 firmware update and reboot, AP finds that Cr50 reset is required for Cr50 to pick the new firmware so it trigger Cr50 reset and power off the system, AP expects system will power on automatically after Cr50 reset. However this is not the case for Chromebox, Chromebox EC set AP_IDLE flag when system is shutting down, when AP_IDLE flag is set in EC, the system stays at S5/G3 and wait for power button presssend. It cause an issue in factory that the operator needs to press power button to power on the DUT after Cr50 firmware update. This patch sends EC command to direct EC to clear AP_IDLE flag after AP shutdown so AP can boot up when Cr50 reset. This patch calls into vboot API (vb2api_get_fw_boot_info) to retrieve FW slot boot information like (tries count, current boot slot, previous boot slot, previous boot status and boot mode). Upon retrieval of the vboot information, elog callback from ramstage records the info into the eventlog. Additionally, this patch refactors the existing event logging mechanism to add newer APIs to record vboot firmware boot related information. 2022-04-27lib/hardwaremain.c: Move creating ACPI structs to bootstate hooksArthur Heymans
hardwaremain.c is the common ramstage entry to all platforms so move out ACPI code generation (x86 specific) to boot state hooks. Another reason to do this is the following: On some platforms that start in dram it makes little sense to have separate stages. To reduce the complexity we want to call the ramstage main function instead of loading a full stage. To make this scheme more maintainable it makes sense to move out as much functionality from the 'main' function as possible. This field was never meant to be filled out by coreboot, because it can't know what the right value for this will be by the time the OS is running, so anything coreboot could fill in here is premature. This field is only read by the chromeos-specific `crossystem` utility, not by kernel code, so if one does not run through depthcharge there'll be many more broken assumptions in CNVS anyway. Now that the console system itself will clearly differentiate loglevels, it is no longer necessary to explicitly add "ERROR: " in front of every BIOS_ERR message to help it stand out more (and allow automated tooling to grep for it). Removing all these extra .rodata characters should save us a nice little amount of binary size. This patch was created by running find src/ -type f -exec perl -0777 -pi -e 's/printk\(\s*BIOS_ERR,\s*"ERROR: /printk\(BIOS_ERR, "/gi' '{}' ';' and doing some cursory review/cleanup on the result. Currently, if `get_wifi_sar_cbfs_filename()` returns NULL, then `get_wifi_sar_limits()` assumes that the default filename is used for CBFS SAR file. This prevents a board from supporting different models using the same firmware -- some which require SAR support and some which don't. This change updates the logic in `get_wifi_sar_limits()` to return early if filename is not provided by the mainboard. In order to maintain the same logic as before, current mainboards are updated to return WIFI_SAR_CBFS_DEFAULT_FILENAME instead of NULL in default case. SAR table in VPD has been deprecated for Chrome OS platforms for > 1 year now. All new Chrome OS platforms have switched to using SAR tables from CBFS. This change drops the support for SAR table in VPD from coreboot to align with the factory changes. `get_wifi_sar_limits()` is thus updated to look for SAR file in CBFS only. The layout of GNVS has expectation for a fixed size array for chromeos_acpi_t. This allows us to reduce the exposure of <chromeos/gnvs.h>. If chromeos_acpi_t was the last entry in struct global_nvs padding at the end is also removed. If device_nvs_t exists, place a properly sized reserve for chromeos_acpi_t in the middle. 2020-12-02cbfs: Simplify load/map API names, remove type argumentsJulius Werner
This patch renames cbfs_boot_map_with_leak() and cbfs_boot_load_file() to cbfs_map() and cbfs_load() respectively. This is supposed to be the start of a new, better organized CBFS API where the most common operations have the most simple and straight-forward names. Less commonly used variants of these operations (e.g. cbfs_ro_load() or cbfs_region_load()) can be introduced later. It seems unnecessary to keep carrying around "boot" in the names of most CBFS APIs if the vast majority of accesses go to the boot CBFS (instead, more unusual operations should have longer names that describe how they diverge from the common ones). cbfs_map() is paired with a new cbfs_unmap() to allow callers to cleanly reap mappings when desired. A few new cbfs_unmap() calls are added to generic code where it makes sense, but it seems unnecessary to introduce this everywhere in platform or architecture specific code where the boot medium is known to be memory-mapped anyway. In fact, even for non-memory-mapped platforms, sometimes leaking a mapping to the CBFS cache is a much cleaner solution than jumping through hoops to provide some other storage for some long-lived file object, and it shouldn't be outright forbidden when it makes sense. Additionally, remove the type arguments from these function signatures. The goal is to eventually remove type arguments for lookup from the whole CBFS API. Filenames already uniquely identify CBFS files. The type field is just informational, and there should be APIs to allow callers to check it when desired, but it's not clear what we gain from forcing this as a parameter into every single CBFS access when the vast majority of the time it provides no additional value and is just clutter. 2020-10-19volteer+vendorcode: Retrieve Cr50 version only via SPIJes Klinke
No recent Chromebooks have used I2C for TPM communication, and as a result, a bug has crept in. The ability to extract Cr50 firmware string is only supported via SPI, yet code in mainboard and vendorcode attempt to do so unconditionally. This CL makes it such that the code also compiles for future designs using I2C. (Whether we want to enhance the I2C protocol to be able to provide the version string, and then implement the support is a separate question.) This effort is prompted by the desire to use reworked Volteer EVT devices for validating the new Ti50/Dauntless TPM. Dauntless will primarily be using I2C in upcoming designs. 2020-08-27symbols: Change implementation details of DECLARE_OPTIONAL_REGION()Julius Werner
It seems that GCC's LTO doesn't like the way we implement DECLARE_OPTIONAL_REGION(). This patch changes it so that rather than having a normal DECLARE_REGION() in <symbols.h> and then an extra DECLARE_OPTIONAL_REGION() in the C file using it, you just say DECLARE_OPTIONAL_REGION() directly in <symbols.h> (in place and instead of the usual DECLARE_REGION()). This basically looks the same way in the resulting object file but somehow LTO seems to like it better. Enable Cr50 update in recovery mode, so that we can at least still update the process for most cases (that an update is pending in recovery mode is not impossible but should be unlikely in the field). Leave manual recovery unaffected so at least that would still work even if Cr50 wedges in a weird way that it thinks it has an update on every boot or something. 2019-12-11printf: Automatically prefix %p with 0xJulius Werner
According to the POSIX standard, %p is supposed to print a pointer "as if by %#x", meaning the "0x" prefix should automatically be prepended. All other implementations out there (glibc, Linux, even libpayload) do this, so we should make coreboot match. This patch changes vtxprintf() accordingly and removes any explicit instances of "0x%p" from existing format strings. How to handle zero padding is less clear: the official POSIX definition above technically says there should be no automatic zero padding, but in practice most other implementations seem to do it and I assume most programmers would prefer it. The way chosen here is to always zero-pad to 32 bits, even on a 64-bit system. The rationale for this is that even on 64-bit systems, coreboot always avoids using any memory above 4GB for itself, so in practice all pointers should fit in that range and padding everything to 64 bits would just hurt readability. Padding it this way also helps pointers that do exceed 4GB (e.g. prints from MMU config on some arm64 systems) stand out better from the others. 2019-11-20Remove MIPS architectureJulius Werner
The MIPS architecture port has been added 5+ years ago in order to support a Chrome OS project that ended up going nowhere. No other board has used it since and nobody is still willing or has the expertise and hardware to maintain it. We have decided that it has become too much of a mainenance burden and the chance of anyone ever reviving it seems too slim at this point. This patch eliminates all MIPS code and MIPS-specific hacks. On ChromeOS, there will be VPD values for dynamic speaker management (DSM) calibration data. They are resistor calibration values and temperature during calibration. These VPD fields use "dsm_calib_" prefix. Known keys are: "dsm_calib_r0_0" "dsm_calib_r0_1" "dsm_calib_r0_2" "dsm_calib_r0_3" "dsm_calib_temp_0" For now these values are unsigned decimal numbers greater than 0. This library will be used for RT1011 device driver in the patch series. Note that in the future we may encode more values into this VPD field if needed. We retain the flexibility for coreboot device driver or codec driver to decode/parse the VPD values based on the needed use case per-board. After ChromiumOS CL:1293132 and CL:1295890, Chrome EC can store the flag telling if the last reboot was triggered by AP watchdog for some boards (e.g., Kukui). This CL adds a new function google_chromeec_get_ap_watchdog_flag(), which reads the AP watchdog flag from Chrome EC, and updates the tables of reset causes and reset flags. A new Kconfig option CHROMEOS_USE_EC_WATCHDOG_FLAG is added for elog_handle_watchdog_tombstone() to determine if watchdog reset was triggered by the AP watchdog flag from EC instead of the tombstone in AP. 2019-08-20src: Remove variable length arraysJacob Garber
Variable length arrays were a feature added in C99 that allows the length of an array to be determined at runtime. Eg. int sum(size_t n) { int arr[n]; ... } This adds a small amount of runtime overhead, but is also very dangerous, since it allows use of an unlimited amount of stack memory, potentially leading to stack overflow. This is only worsened in coreboot, which often has very little stack space to begin with. Citing concerns like this, all instances of VLA's were recently removed from the Linux kernel. In the immortal words of Linus Torvalds [0], AND USING VLA'S IS ACTIVELY STUPID! It generates much more code, and much _slower_ code (and more fragile code), than just using a fixed key size would have done. [...] Anyway, some of these are definitely easy to just fix, and using VLA's is actively bad not just for security worries, but simply because VLA's are a really horribly bad idea in general in the kernel. This patch follows suit and zaps all VLA's in coreboot. Some of the existing VLA's are accidental ones, and all but one can be replaced with small fixed-size buffers. The single tricky exception is in the SPI controller interface, which will require a rewrite of old drivers to remove [1]. The ASL 2.0 syntax for "!X" resolves to "LNot(X)" which will evaluate the object as an integer and turn into a boolean. This fixes an issue where some VPD keys were causing the search to stop and miss subsequent entries. 2019-04-23coreboot: Run mainboard specific code before Cr50 resetKeith Short
When coreboot checks the TPM and key-ladder state it issues a reboot of the Cr50 with a delay parameter. Older Cr50 code doesn't support the delay parameter and reboots immediately, which prevented coreboot from running the mainboard specific code needed for the AP to come back up. This change calls mainboard_prepare_cr50_reset() prior to sending the VENDOR_CC_IMMEDIATE_RESET command. This change also fixes a false error message from the coreboot log that indicated "Unexpected Cr50 TPM mode 3" when the Cr50 key ladder is disabled. This change adds support for providing a MAC address that can be used by the OS network drivers to change the MAC address that a NIC uses. The Realtek r8152 driver in the Linux kernel supports a MAC address passthru feature which can result in the dock ethernet port using the same MAC address that is assigned to the internal NIC. This is done by calling an ACPI method at \_SB.AMAC() which returns a formatted string containing the MAC address for the dock to use. The Linux kernel implementation can be found at drivers/net/usb/r8152.c:vendor_mac_passthru_addr_read() This is implemented specifically for Chrome OS as it relies on VPD to determine the MAC address to supply. The policy which controls where the dock MAC address comes from is written into RW_VPD property "dock_passthru": "dock_mac" or empty: Use MAC address from RO_VPD value "dock_mac" "ethernet_mac0": Use MAC address from RO_VPD value "ethernet_mac0" "builtin": existing dock MAC address (return nothing) The MAC address in VPD is the standard format AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF and it must be converted into the string format expected by the OS which involves some string manipulation which ACPI is not great at handling. 2019-02-22symbols.h: Add macro to define memlayout region symbolsJulius Werner
When <symbols.h> was first introduced, it only declared a handful of regions and we didn't expect that too many architectures and platforms would need to add their own later. However, our amount of platforms has greatly expanded since, and with them the need for more special memory regions. The amount of code duplication is starting to get unsightly, and platforms keep defining their own <soc/symbols.h> files that need this as well. This patch adds another macro to cut down the definition boilerplate. Unfortunately, macros cannot define other macros when they're called, so referring to region sizes as _name_size doesn't work anymore. This patch replaces the scheme with REGION_SIZE(name). Not touching the regions in the x86-specific <arch/symbols.h> yet since they don't follow the standard _region/_eregion naming scheme. They can be converted later if desired.
