2024-09-09Docs: Revert false MyST Parser toctree conversionsNicholas Chin
Commit 35599f9a6671 (Docs: Replace Recommonmark with MyST Parser) converted recommonmark style toctrees in bulk using a script. This was done by searching for lists of references, which is how recommonmark denoted toctree entries. However, this also converted lists of external URLs, which would not normally be included in the toctree. Revert these cases back to lists of URLs as they were before the migration. 2024-03-21Docs: Replace Recommonmark with MyST ParserNicholas Chin
Recommonmark has been deprecated since 2021 [1] and the last release was over 3 years ago [2]. As per their announcement, Markedly Structured Text (MyST) Parser [3] is the recommended replacement. For the most part, the existing documentation is compatible with MyST, as both parsers are built around the CommonMark flavor of Markdown. The main difference that affects coreboot is how the Sphinx toctree is generated. Recommonmark has a feature called auto_toc_tree, which converts single level lists of references into a toctree: * [Part 1: Starting from scratch](part1.md) * [Part 2: Submitting a patch to coreboot.org](part2.md) * [Part 3: Writing unit tests](part3.md) * [Managing local additions](managing_local_additions.md) * [Flashing firmware](flashing_firmware/index.md) MyST Parser does not provide a replacement for this feature, meaning the toctree must be defined manually. This is done using MyST's syntax for Sphinx directives: ```{toctree} :maxdepth: 1 Part 1: Starting from scratch <part1.md> Part 2: Submitting a patch to coreboot.org <part2.md> Part 3: Writing unit tests <part3.md> Managing local additions <managing_local_additions.md> Flashing firmware <flashing_firmware/index.md> ``` Internally, auto_toc_tree essentially converts lists of references into the Sphinx toctree structure that the MyST syntax above more directly represents. For instance, lists of links to external resources currently end up in the toctree, but we may want to limit it to pages within coreboot. This change does break rendering and navigation of the documentation in applications that can render Markdown, such as Okular, Gitiles, or the GitHub mirror. Assuming the docs are mainly intended to be viewed after being rendered to doc.coreboot.org, this is probably not an issue in practice. Another difference is that MyST natively supports Markdown tables, whereas with Recommonmark, tables had to be written in embedded rST [4]. However, MyST also supports embedded rST, so the existing tables can be easily converted as the syntax is nearly identical. These were converted using `find ./ -iname "*.md" | xargs -n 1 sed -i "s/eval_rst/{eval-rst}/"` Makefile.sphinx and conf.py were regenerated from scratch by running `sphinx-quickstart` using the updated version of Sphinx, which removes a lot of old commented out boilerplate. Any relevant changes coreboot had made on top of the previous autogenerated versions of these files were ported over to the newly generated file. From some initial testing the generated webpages appear and function identically to the existing documentation built with Recommonmark. TEST: `make -C util/docker docker-build-docs` builds the documentation successfully and the generated output renders properly when viewed in a web browser. 2023-08-22Documentation/acpi: add Windows-specific documentationFelix Held
When using the Windows fast startup mechanism which is enabled by default, Windows will use a cached version of the ACPI tables during normal boots after a clean shutdown. Since I've run into this issue and spent quite a bit of time debugging the wrong issue due to this, better document this possibly unexpected behavior. 2021-05-05drivers/i2c/generic: Set S0W to D3hot for wake deviceTony Huang
If device is supported as a wake source, _S0W should be set to D3hot. This ensures that the device is put into D3hot by the OSPM. Power resource(PRIC) for the device is listed in both _PR0 and _PR3. Thus, it ensures that the OSPM does not turn off power resource when device is put into D0 and D3hot. Hence, it is capable of waking the system from D3hot state. However, if it is put into D3cold, then the power resource is turned off by the OSPM. The devices we are currently looking at for touchscreen/touchpad do not really support auxiliary power and so do not support wake from D3cold. 2021-03-22acpi/acpigen.h: Add more intuitive AML package closing functionsJakub Czapiga
Until now every AML package had to be closed using acpigen_pop_len(). This commit introduces set of package closing functions corresponding with their opening function names. For example acpigen_write_if() opens if-statement package, acpigen_write_if_end() closes it. Now acpigen_write_else() closes previously opened acpigen_write_if(), so acpigen_pop_len() is not required before it. 2021-03-11Documentation/acpi: switch example from edge to level interruptsDmitry Torokhov
Configuring touch controllers to use edge-triggered interrupts is not recommended as it is very easy to lose an edge when kernel drivers disable the interrupt for one reason or another, and recovering from this condition requires workarounds in the kernel. Unfortunately the example setting up a touchpad used edge-triggered interrupts, and this set up has been propagating through the boards. Let's switch the example to use level interrupts instead. 2020-05-02acpi: Move ACPI table support out of arch/x86 (3/5)Furquan Shaikh
This change moves all ACPI table support in coreboot currently living under arch/x86 into common code to make it architecture independent. ACPI table generation is not really tied to any architecture and hence it makes sense to move this to its own directory. * Add function to generate unique _UID using CRC32 * Add function to write the _UID based on a device's ACPI path ACPI devices that have the same _HID must use different _UID. Linux doesn't care about _UID if it's not used. Windows 10 verifies the ACPI code on boot and BSODs if two devices with the same _HID share the same _UID. Fixes BSOD seen on Windows 10.
